Man my brain hurts....
I swear people are blindfolded throwing crap at a dart board and whatever number gets hit, that's going to be the net gain. A DEN captain that's tied into the union and is tied into the certification at the FSDO just told me the real facts on the phone. TSA is keeping all the EPs and MPs and replacing the thrust reverser equipped LRs with the new thrust reverser LRs with less pieces of speed tape on them. The LRs in United colors will primarily be used on USAirways routes between PIT, BDL, and RDU. The EPs in USAirways paint will be flying STL - IAH, IAH - JAX, and IAD - JAX under the United name, primarily for passenger comfort so they don't have to sit next to anyone because it'll be half full due to weight restrictions. So, since there are only 3 LRs that currently have TRs, that leaves 33 airplanes left over. TSA is no longer doing sim training at FSI, the remaining 33 airplanes will be used to train the CQFOs that aren't needed for such small net growth. Looks like everyone except me is wrong....Ha!
Now that the facts are out of the way..... let's point out some things that are absolutely absurd and make NO sense whatsoever.
TSA operates 7 EPs total. TWO (2) are United colors. 802 and 857. The rest are in USAirways or TSA colors. The ones in TSA colors (806,812,825) are used on occasion, if needed, and will be used for charters. So even if the two United Eps would be replaced, that leaves 34 net gain. TSA has 3 MPs. For fun, let's say they get rid of all those. Down to 31 net gain now. 20? 18? Nope. The ONLY way I can come up with 18 airplanes is dumping every United LR without thrust reversers (16) and the 2 United EPs. Seems pretty logical considering the non-TR equipped airplanes have operated just fine with the exception of Ottawa (time will tell on that operation this winter/spring). Let's not forget, a good amount of these non-TR equipped airplanes that are undoubtedly being parked were repainted within the last 4 months... probably so they look good in the desert.
Where do you guys think this stuff up?
Since I'm not much of a popcorn guy, I'm gonna go get some whiskey.

I posted my info from a couple union/training sources that wanted to clarify how many we were actually adding which would be helpful to tell any friends thinking about come to tsa. 36 new planes for TSA included replacing 18 whose contracts were expiring this year. I trust these sources, but who knows. Hopefully the company will continue with more details this week including which hubs the flying will go to
Replacing/renewing contracts is not getting rid of aircraft.

Well since you brought it up, I never blamed the recruiting department. Getting fired was my own fault. The recruiting departments info at the interview was way off though, and I think some of it was intentional,

Fortunately, I don't fly for you, nor has there been any shortage of opportunity for me to get back into a 121 flight deck.

Pretty sure upgrade is running 18 months as of the last class. With new aircraft it will be 12 soon. And no one was advertising a 6 month upgrade....ever. Check your facts, or basic math skills.

I know what this company does, and so does the last TSA captain I flew with that was a 12 year FO and stayed because "that upgrade was always just around the corner."

Kind of like the gambler who keeps playing the same slot machine, because "it's gonna pay out any time now..."

Painting of AC are built into every contract... UA pays for it every 7 years..DL every 5 years. Thats why all the DLX planes look better then UAX planes...
