A rumor about their existence combined with too much free time led me to find this.
The tail numbers N530QX, N531QX and N532QX were all reserved by "AMERICAN AIRLINES-SFO" this past September.
FAA Registry - Aircraft - N-Number Inquiry
The entire run of N4**QX tails (with the exception of 424 and 425) are either actively flying or currently reserved by Horizon Air.
Why would another company reserve some of the "Horizon" tails?
Discuss.
