I have owned two airplanes, both experimental (Rutan Verieze and a Velocity).
in my opinion, experimental is the way to go for speed and extreme low cost of operation and up keep!!

Most pilots will never afford a plane (at least those of us with houses and families). Renting is the best and cheapest option. You have to fly a lot to justify owning. I've been looking into gliders myself. I've taken a few lessons a long time ago and enjoyed it.

While I like the IFR flying at places like LGA there is nothing more stress free than the weekend fair weather flying.
