Regionals don't check your credit, they check your pulse...

You should have been more diligent in your search for a spouse.

Quite common.

Many (not all by any means) wealthy people got that way because they're sociopaths so paying old debts because it's the right thing to do is not going to be high on their list.

It's also financially prudent in many cases to borrow money even if you could pay cash...that way the risk is on someone else.

And if you're rich enough and in a high enough position in society your credit score is mostly irrelevant so there's no need to sweat it. Pilots need clean driving, medical, criminal, and health histories...none of that applies to CEO's.

There's a clear and reasonable precedent that *some* jobs require folks with a history of financial prudence and responsibility...particularly folks who handle/control money.

But it's not really *your* privacy...you made an agreement and than failed to follow through...the person who was on the losing end of that is certainly free to make that info available to others with an interest in knowing. I think employers have a fair right to know this sort of thing so they don't hire crooks or irresponsible people. Now that said, the employer should have a due diligence to consider the circumstances...someone who got caught up in a bad divorce or housing bubble situation should not really be lumped in with crooks and serial credit abusers.

But many or most majors probably do. Take the regional job, then you'll have seven years to rebuild your credit score.
