Thanks for posting these articles. Only 22 times around the sun, and I don't know everything and I'm not grown up yet (hopefully never will), but I love adventure and I like flying.
Systems management would be a welcome change IMHO, and I had the fortune of depression-era grandparents who saved and saved, and generous parents who bestowed me with the $$$. Got my CFI and CFII; I'm finishing up my senior year of school. I know GA pay tends to start higher and cap out lower, so I'm leaning towards the regionals and then majors. I've done lots and lots of reading.
Hell I got into aviation not because I think jetplanes are so so cool but because it involves systems management and lots of focus, the mid- and end-game salaries (absent of a very untimely furlough) won't be too shabby if I start now, you get a longish leash, and the office view and destinations are varied. I though it was a good fit 2.5 years ago and I still think that, though instructing can be frustrating at times.
Again, thanks for posting. This site has been a godsend for me.

I can agree the money is there later in the career. But with age 65 it really screwed career progression. And with majors making billions due to the 1/3 salary pay out to the regionals and regionals doing 55% of domestic flying, the government needs to step in. It is unethical to pay DAL employees massive profit sharing when 55% of it cae off the backs of guys and girls flying their planes their pax and their tickets...

According to recent findings, the human brain does not reach full maturity until at least the mid-20s. (See J. Giedd in References.) The specific changes that follow young adulthood are not yet well studied, but it is known that they involve increased myelination and continued adding and pruning of neurons. As a number of researchers have put it, "the rental car companies have it right." The brain isn't fully mature at 16, when we are allowed to drive, or at 18, when we are allowed to vote, or at 21, when we are allowed to drink, but closer to 25, when we are allowed to rent a car.
