I'm no coffee snob but no slouch either. I roast and grind my own beans at home and I have a decent espresso maker. I drink the airplane coffee. I think it's SBs There are ways to make it a bit stronger and I'm happy with it. I'm not paying 2-4$ cup when the stuff on the airplane is just as good as the airport drip. I have my own cup also. I've probably saved thousands of cups and landfill space over the years.

After a few "Positive E. coli tests in water tank" I decided I would rather fall asleep in the flare than drink any non bottle water from an airplane.

In my instructor days, that was the way to know the student was ready to solo.

I think I'm one of the very few pilots who doesn't drink coffee at all. It's something I never acquired a taste for, and I find that I can get enough caffeine from Diet Coke or those caffeinated flavor things you can add to water bottles.

I think that I've posted this story on one of the old threads here before. At the end of the day when the cleaners took the hot water tanks off for "cleaning", they popped the top and a medium sized frog was floating in the top and he/she wasn't moving. I was relatively new at the time, and when I closely inspected the cleanliness of the inside of the container, in addition to the boiled frog, I never, ever, and never again used the hot water. If you're a real coffee connoisseur as I am, I started carrying a thermos bottle and generally, when I made it to a food court or restaurant, the vendors were very nice about refilling it, but some balked when I asked them to make sure it was a perfect 200 degrees, factoring in of course the cooling and by that time, it was the perfect 180 degrees. After that incident, at that base, the hot water was known as "frogwater."
