Sully and Skiles don't care about safety, they care about scope. They're exploiting 3407 and exaggerating the situation at the regionals to make it look like regionals are not safe so airlines will be pressured to move flying back to mainline. Their agenda during 1549 congressional testimony was transparent and obvious, and they used their notoriety to try to influence scope under the guise of safety.
I support moving all branded flying to mainline, I don't support exploiting tragedy and lying about the regionals to do it. |

Even if the 1500 rule goes away that's not going to do a damn thing to supply more pilots. The 1500 rule went into effect in 2013... the number of kids wanting to get into this profession was dismal long before that. Obviously I'm a huge proponent of the 1500hr rule but I'm just saying... at UND we're already stretched on instructors and that's with tons of people sticking around to 1000. If people were in and out of here any faster there would be literally nobody left to instruct or at least the capacity of students would go way down. That's not just bad for producing more American pilots but that would also put lots of strain on foreign carriers who train here as well.
If they raised compensation across the board to attract new people to become pilots, it would take at least 3 years for those new pilots to get through the system. An interesting quandary for sure. |

They are 100% correct. Creating a sub-group of contractors flying under brand name has created a second tier in safety.

Delta has pay rates for the CRJ-900. They start at $70/hour for a first year FO. $70 per hour. That's 300% what the same pilot will make at a regional. It's infuriating to think how the difference goes to a regional's overhead and its CEO's pockets. Get rid of all that. I hope Republic fails and I hope all the regionals fail. The only reason they exist was because legacy pilots were too proud to fly small planes. Ironically, regionals now fly aircraft sizably comparable to a DC-9, and their routes are anything but "regional." What a twisted industry situation to inherit. Thanks ALPA, thanks old legacy pilots.
What would it cost United or Delta or American to bring regional flying in-house? Would their pilots go for it? It seems like they hate the idea of giving a seniority number to anyone they don't have to, but if the only way Republic or the regional industry can staff their aircraft is by raising pay significantly, at what point does it become more cost effective to cut the middle man and bring the flying back in-house? |
What if the mainline carriers moved regional jet flying back home but placed a seat/equipment lock on all newly minted ATPs for a set amount of time?

No, other airlines are covering our flying, we can't staff our own flying. We have no reserves. Meanwhile management thinks everything is rosy on Purdue RD.
These morons are running this ship fullspeed towards an iceberg. DONT COME HERE |
Gonna play devils advocate here...So, we (RAH) need a new contract to attract new hires so we can staff our flying, right? Let's look at the timeline here.
2 weeks+ for finishing negotiations (haven't even touched the "big 3" articles yet) 2-3 weeks for a vote 1 month to attract/interview anyone who might take the bait 2-3 months to train, including IOE You're looking at 4-5 months before we even get the bodies we need in the seats flying the airplanes. And that's just for current staffing. How about when our 9 new DL175s start showing up this Fall? Or our 75 UA175s?...Half my flights cancel 2-3 days before hand. What's the point in even holding a line...Everyone saying this place is headed for an iceberg? It already hit it. It's a sinking ship. Jump on a lifeboat while you still can people. Mine's leaving next week. |
