Wheels falling off at RAH

Multiple times this week Mesa has done extra sections out of IAH to cover Shuttle America flights that have cancelled due to "flight crew availability."

Is it really getting that bad over there?

IlliniPilot99 05-10-2015 03:28 PM

supposedly...my buddies over there between 30-70 flights a day are cancelled to to flight crew availability

Mesa has lots of 170s parked on the ramp in iah too...

Where are the wheels NOT falling off due to staffing? Mesa? Compass? PSA but not for lack of pilots in training/waiting IOE it seems.

Those planes aren't in service yet. We have both 12+ CA and 12+ FO RSVs available each day thru the month.

We take delivery of a plane 2-4 weeks before it is assigned a line of flying, in case of any hiccups. Have yet to have any.

According to flightaware, it's worse for Shuttle and Republic. Cancelling upwards of 8% of their flights everyday.

The other places you mentioned aren't even at 2%

Is there any way to know if those are fully booked flights or are they canceling the flights to save money?

I ask as I've never seen this question asked/answered relative to these cancellations.

No, other airlines are covering our flying, we can't staff our own flying. We have no reserves. Meanwhile management thinks everything is rosy on Purdue RD.
These morons are running this ship fullspeed towards an iceberg.
DONT COME HERE

My prediction is within the next year or two you will see a major softening of the 1500hr rule. You'll see it knocked down to something like 500 hours in leiu of 16 Sim sessions and minimum 100% hours of ioe. The crisis is beginning and the government won't sit on their hands and watch the nations airlines crumble.

From RAH's Financial Earnings Report...

"However, our crew cancellation rates steadily climbed over the quarter and remain at elevated levels in April and May. There is really no point in speculating as to whether or not our ongoing labor dispute is driving escalated levels of crew cancellations. Regardless, we are convinced that the most expedient way to get back to our historically high levels of performance is to reach a successful outcome at the bargaining table. Unfortunately, until this happens, we expect our operational reliability will remain challenged. And in light of that reality, we have asked our partners to reduce our levels of flying this summer."

"Unfortunately, I think it was March 30 the IBT leadership team issued a memo to our pilots – let’s just say discouraging them from picking up open time. And unfortunately, that’s led to an even more elevated level of crew cancellations in April and May. So, with that as background, we approached our partners and requested all of them to reduce ratably block hour production for the summer months, because we just don’t feel it’s in anybody’s best interest to continue to have the poor performance the customer impacts that we are seeing. And as I said in the comments, we believe that getting to the asset of bargaining table and getting a new agreement in place with our pilots is going to be the long-term solution to this challenge."
