I've been using the CA in the CRJ for two months now, and in light GA airplanes for 3 years before that. Noise is not even an issue.
Some people love CAs and some hate them due to the feeling of the wire band and the earpulgs in your ears.
After going through foam earplugs for a while, I had a hearing aid store make some custom ear molds to replace the stock foam pieces. They do not seal as well to your ears and allow more noise in, but they are much more comfortable. You can clean them off with some hand wipes. CA says not to do this, but it worked out fine for me.
