Maybe with UA buying these 10 aircraft, Inc. gets the rate they want for XJT to fly them and UA gets the shorter length term. You see, I'm actually pulling for you guys to get your foot in the door. Not always chugging that Kool-Aid.
But anyways, just because UA bought them, doesn't automatically mean these are destined for Mesa. They could be going to TSA or Compass just as easily.

Unless the other 18 are also destined to a regional that doesn't already have a 175.
Doesn't matter what mainline wants, Inc is saying they cost too much and they have been losing money for forever. Xjt says its incs fault, I don't believe it they lost money before Skywest bought them and the contracts with the pilots in particular are not sustainable in the regional market as it stands today. Inc has for all intents and purposes given up on the "renegotiate with mainline" policy because mainline isn't playing ball.

By the way, the cal CPA did make money until inc whipsawed Skywest pilots agains xjt. After that, the Skywest negotiated CPA that xjt got stuck with has lost money thanks to their superior strategic planning.
Actually it doesn't say United is necessarily buying the aircraft, it said "we, or one of our partners will convert to firm orders"...Skywest is the only company to my knowledge that has firm orders and are also a united express partner.
Here it is:
"We announced we will add 10 Embraer E175 aircraft to the United Express fleet, offering more customers greater comfort and convenience during their inflight experience. We, or one of our express partners, expect to convert 18 more E175 aircraft to firm orders in the near term.
We anticipate deliveries of the aircraft will begin next year and continue through the summer of 2017. The new aircraft will replace older, less-efficient 50-seat regional jets and are in addition to the 125 E175s whose deliveries began in 2014.
"Our customers tell us that they are thrilled with these modern, fuel-efficient aircraft," said Fleet VP Ron Baur. "The E175s are a great addition to the regional fleet and further align the United Express inflight experience with our mainline service."
The E175s will offer 12 seats in United First and 64 seats in United Economy, including 16 extra-legroom United Economy Plus seats. The aircraft also offer more personal space for customers, with wider seats and aisles than other regional aircraft; a power outlet at each United First seat; and large overhead bins that can accommodate standard-size carry-on bags.

Hmmm, I guess I read that to mean that UAL (pretty sure that also had options) converted 10 of their options to firm orders with a possibility of them or someone else (Skywest) converting 18 of their options as well. Time will tell.

Probably doesn't make much difference but supposedly management has said that everything is done that can be done without actually having an aircraft on property. Not sure if that is true or not. But I'm sure they can just cut and paste everything from the Skywest side of not. I wouldn't bet on xjt either.

That and expressjet isn't really attractive to new hires, you'd need a lot of planes to get upgrade down and get people through the door

But they are letting xjt spend more money. They've improved our contract incrementally with LOA's and MOUs, giving us EFBs (with no ability to use for notification), and going to offer a contract proposal with better pay rates and work rules for everyone. Who knows what's really going on.
The only way to solve that problem is with new profitable flying, for example the AAL ERJ CPA, or if UAL simply offers more money for existing flying, or getting delta to give up on the 2nd lowest clause, or a new large RJ CPA. Our performance almost can't get any better as it is, so I wouldn't count on getting any additional performance bonus revenue. A new pilot contract will only add costs. In other words, it's more of a revenue problem than a cost problem, so it seems.
