Default Understand the Pay Scale

How does the pay scale work at the airlines when it relates to Upgrading to a Captain? Is it based on years with the company or is it related to the position you hold? (i.e. 5 years as a FO and then your upgrade to a captain.... do you get paid 6th year CA or 1st year CA?)

It's based on date of hire nearly everywhere.

Spend 5 years I the right seat and when you upgrade you'll be at year 5 or 6 on the captain pay scale.
