I know it varies, but how many hours per month are people flying while on reserve at ASA.

I commute form Houston to Atlanta. It is primarily benign but there are days when the flights are full and the weather is bad and it makes it tough. I have sweated bullets maybe three times in two years. Just get a crashpad and pick the 12PM reserve slot which should give you plenty of time to make it to ATL. It is a game and you will learn how to play it once you start. You will be around other pilots who are in the same boat as you and they will give you tips on how to make it work. I have a couple of friends who lived in PHX and commuted to ATL with hardly any trouble. They have since transferred over to the LAX base and are much happier with the commute. like I said it is a game and you will figure it out. Good Luck.
