I regret going to ERAU everyday...
Hello
I am 2005 ERAU grad. I drank the Kool-aid just like everyone else that went that poor excuse for a University. My sophomore year I realized that everything about that school is b.s. My parents where helping me out then and they were convinced that I should stay and so I did hoping that maybe I am just a little to negative about the whole experience... I worked every summer and weekends and still managed to owe them $50k. I know it was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life but I am not cocky or arrogant like some people from that place are. So, whenever someone asks me where I went to school, I tell them that I went to school in Florida. Some people try to dig deeper and I tell them the truth... As soon as they hear ERAU they take cheap shots at me, sometimes lasting the entire 4 day trip. I know that some people from Riddle "suck" but I don't go around telling people how great I am, so why do people have the need to make me feel more regretful about attending Riddle than I feel already?

Cause it's fun...?
Aviation is a field full, and i mean FULL, of *********s, smarta$$es, and unnecessarily cocky people. I am constantly reminded of my fraternity days when I'm in a big group of pilots. That's just how it is.
Point is, most of us love to ragg on each other. It's fun, and it gives us something to do. You just need to suck it up and get some thicker skin. There is nothing necessarily wrong with graduating from riddle, but it's easy to poke fun at you guys. Just take it in stride and smile....

You say it was a big mistake?..OK, blow it off and forget it. I`ve made some big ones...bought into 8 limited partnerships in the mid 80s. Lost my a$$ on just about all of them...I mean a lot...past is past. Learn from the mistakes and move along...If I could give you and everyone out there one piece of advice...never take any financial advice from a pilot....never!

I wish the word would get out more. That vampire of a school is having way too easy of a time attracting students. Possibly because a certain degree of reality avoidance is inherent in those with aspirations of becoming a pilot? Don't know.
I graduated Riddle in Dec '04. I've since then hid the diploma and thrown away the collegiate sweatshirt. (Yes, I bought one. Laugh all you want.) I'm at the University of Florida now, and as far as anyone else I ever meet is concerned, it's the only college I went to.

The funny thing is that I still have friends flight instructing down there with 3000 hrs PIC in the C172 believing that it will eventually pay off. Every time I see them at the airport the have those sweaters and t-shirts displayed proudly on their chests...

I went to riddle and have no problem saying it. No, I'm not cocky. Yes, I agree that there are a LOT of cocky idiots that graduate from ERAU. I hate them more than anyone since I've trained them for almost 4 years at both campuses! There's nothing funnier than seeing a private pilot student showing up at the first activity with a $300 leather pilot jacket with his name imprinted on it!! LOL
However, I personally don't regret attending/working at ERAU. I learned a LOT, built lots of time, went on 3 different internships, networked with a lot of people, worked in a fun/safe environment with GREAT work rules and came out without a single penny of debt.
Having said that, ERAU's prices have increased by 70% in the last 7 years. I honestly think they are WAY overpriced, especially for all the general education courses that can be taken at a community college for a fraction of ERAU's price.
In addition, I agree that about 80-85% of those who are attending ERAU are wasting their time. They end up with a worthless degree, average knowledge, wasted opportunities and LOTS of debt. The problem is simple: Garbage in-Garbage out. Most of the incoming students who attend Aero Sci at ERAU have a substandard academic preparation and little motivation. The school chose to increase tuition in the last few years and now the only admission criteria is affordability. If you have the cash or the credit, you're accepted. If you combine this with an extremely laid-back, non-rigorous curriculum (as far as Aero Sci is concerned), it's easy to see why most people today are wasting their time.
So, to anyone considering attending ERAU today, I would advise them to do all their general education elsewhere, and then still consider cheaper alternatives unless they can obtain substantial scholarships or work at ERAU to benefit from free tuition.
The only thing I regret about attending ERAU is missing out on a lot of the "college experience". In fact, that is probably my biggest complaint regarding ERAU.

I agree I'm a senior and yeah I know their alot of cocky show-offs at this school that are giving a bad name to graduates in the industry..but trust me were not all like that. I here to get what I need and the experience...I have nothing against UND,FIT, Purdue,Auburn who have great aviation programs I just chose Riddle because I knew people that went here rather than did I know people that went to the other schools
