Default $40/hr?

APC forums,

Is there any regional out there with a newhire package exceeding the potential Republic $40/hr? Most of the other regional airlines I have researched have a long (3-4 year) upgrade or newhire pay in the low $20's. I'd be intrested in any of the bonuses. I have a class and want to make the best choice.

Thanks,
Rich

No. Not currently. Republic has by far the best pay package out there. Don't believe the hype and doom and gloom about the company.

Bonuses are a shell game. Don't take into account new hire bonuses when making your decision. Bonuses can be revoked at any time, and they are taxed at a substantially higher rate than normal wages. This means you'll see maybe half the bonus amount in your actual pay check.

Getting into Republic now is a great career move. Take the class you have and don't look back. You won't regret it.

Endeavor is the exception. $20,000 annual bonus for every pilot, not just newhires, over the next few years. That essentially puts first year over 40/hour or over 40k.

And no need to spam this question in every single thread.

Welcome to the future (or current) state of our industry. Scary, isn't it?

Thanks for the reply, Endeavor seems like a solid option. Isn't it owned by Delta?

Not entirely true.

They are WITHHELD at a higher rate but the extra income they represent will be TAXED at your marginal rate. The result is that your refund will be larger, or what you owe will be less, when you file your return next year.

The extra few dollars being proposed at Republic is a trick. Increased health care costs will easily eat into that hourly dollar figure.

There's another big tradeoff too. Currently Republic doesn't have pay protection for cancelled flights. That means you could be looking at taking 25% off any dollar figure during winter months when cancellations run high. Their new contract proposes implementing pay protection like all other airlines have, but at a terrible price. They want you to agree to junior manning. With Republic losing the amount of pilots they are and being forced to shrink, you will have the least amount of days off of any carrier as the company attempts to cope with the collapse of the airline. It's all smoke and mirrors.

You should be made aware though, regardless of whether they can pass this contract or not pass this contract, the airline is heading to bankruptcy reorganization. There simply isn't enough pilots to fly the airplanes and airplanes just cannot sit idle with notes to be paid. Republic's fate will eventually be all other regional carriers fate in the future, but Republic will be among the first with wholly owned carriers being last.

There simply isn't enough pilots in the training pipeline to absorb what's about to start happening at the majors. It's a mathematical certainty.

One good thing about being a Republic pilot though is their pilots will be scooped up by the majors first, while wholly owned regional airline pilots will be locked in the flow through scheme so as to not be able to destroy the major airline passenger feed system. If you are a major airline, who's regional airline do you destroy to get pilots? Your own wholly owned regional carrier or someone who is unaligned like Republic ?

Potential?
No, there is no such thing at RAH. The nc, company, ALD, will never allow an agreement to pass. We had a close chance, but the 357 said no vote. Gonna be NEVER new cba here. Maybe I'll see if i can get bb to set my guarantee at 150 a month. That'd be nice, wouldn't it?

If you are concerned about money then I believe Endeavor is the place. I wish I was getting an extra 20 grand. Hell, if you break that up over monthly guarantee that is an extra $23 on top of your hourly pay.

But as a heads up. It's not all about the money. First, I would highly recommend a local base. That right there makes the job much more tolerable (trust me it's worth it to live in base). Second, is contract. Just like mentioned before. RAH was offering $40/hr (til it was shot down) but they don't have cancellation pay. So really it's smoke and mirrors. Same thing with health care and so on.

Even though it is a pilots market you must pick an airline where you would feel you made the right choice if the music stopped (i.e. regional consolidations) and you were stuck there for years to come. This ensures two things. One, your best interest. Two, helps the industry reform to higher standards. I know this job is "so cool" that many would do it for free but we are professional that deserve to be compensated APPROPRIATELY.
