It's official Q400's for Colgan!

Well, I guess this is good for the Beech guys because I suspect many of the senior SAAB guys will get the Q400 and because the Beeches are going away they will get to upgrade into the SAAB.

Now f/a's......now that'll be a problem, we'll need 300 of them!
I don't see any problem with the senior beech pilots going into a Q400 as well, and we haven't seen any idea of pay yet! Go ahead ask me what I would fly it for!! - BCD

hahaha I don't know why this bothers you, I'm not a 600 hr cfi that went from a 172 to a jet, I paid more dues than some. not saying I'm better than anyone just don't want to fly turboprops anymore, especially for COLGAN, let me guess your one of those "zero to hero" in 2 month types aren't ya?

SAAB how long were you at Colgan? Less than a year right, or maybe a year at most....that's hardly paying your dues, but our generation with the mentality that everything should be handed to them you actually having to work for a year must seem like a lifetime of struggle.

Colgan- you are guaranteed to not be paid what you should to fly the Q400. Good luck even getting 50 seat pay for a 70 seater. Over at pinnacle we are at the lower end of 35 seat saab pay while flying 50 seat jets. But like colgan, upgrades come quickly. But we can always hope on both sides for management to one day wake up on the wrong side of the bed and pay what we deserve. They gotta throw $200+ million dollars somewhere...

What makes you say that? I predict an additional 90-105 pilots to staff those airplanes, and with the 1900's going the way of the dodo I doubt there will be 250 new hires. Also, attrition will slow to a crawl because people will stay for the Q400.
That being said, growth is good IF you can get paid a good wage for doing it. You're no longer an EAS carrier, you're in the big time now. It's time to buck up and get a union and industry average (at least) pay rates for those airframes.

Well, the 250 number came from Chuck Jr himself in the crew room this morning. He said that was the number he was told to hire by year end.
They also bought 6 more saabs, can't remember if I mentioned that earlier. According to Chuck they're adding Pitt as a base, and "maybe Columbus, OH."

The idea is 5 crew/aircraft. 15*2*5=150 (minimum; really you need about 7-8crew/AC), I didn't factor in anything else. And you are right - F/O's will stay for the Q, but if they don't pay double what I am making now - I won't even consider staying let alone transitioning.
