Taking Back Our Profession!!!

There was a ZDC controller working the south of FAK sector the other day that asked an airplane what his max forward speed would be, the guy responded "250". Controller responded "If that's your max forward, I need every bit of that."
then he said:
"Air Shuttle xxxx slow to 250 knots, I have a Slowtation(!!) in the mix to Dulles today."
"Gateway xxxx slow to 250 knots."
"United xxx slow to 250 knots."
"Waterski xxxx slow to 250 knots."
After about 3 minutes...
"Wash, this Slowtation can give you 280 now."
"DO IT, SIR!"

Yup. That's me... the flying speed bump. Trust me- I wish I could fly faster while I climb up to get out of all you guys. (Of course the ride at 410-450 is typically much smoother and I can true out pretty well compared to a CRJ at 340-360.)
Koolaid, sorry that you had a bad experience with corporate. Not all gigs are like the one that you apparently had. You're right- I eat well on the road. I also have some duties that aren't part of the typical "airline" job. Yes, I clean the plane from time to time on nice days and load bags. Yes, I do some minimal office work from home, and make coffee. I'm also paid very well for it, and imagine that if you were offered my job, you'd give it some pretty serious consideration.
I choose to post here because I've been to the airlines and back. I enjoyed the good times (and the downside as a furloughee and IDE layoff), and I certainly would like to see things swing back towards the positive than where they are today. Too many folks are willing to accept marginal or worse for their career, simply because they don't know any better. It's not their fault that GoJets exists and pay is headed for an all time low. IT'S OURS. It's also a lot of the mentality that is bred at the airlines and unions (I've got mine). A perfect example is the pay rate for the heavy business jet sector (Airbus Corporate Jet and BBJ). Those particular aircraft pay almost 20% LESS than Gulfstreams, Globals and other high end business class aircraft. Why? Because retired airline pilots are willing to ***** themselves out to the business world.
I like to think that I can use my experience for some good (as well as the numerous connnections that I have with folks at just about every airline and aviation related business in the industry). If you choose to listen to it (or ignore it) is completely up to you.
A lot of folks don't realize how good it can actually be (in any part of the industry) because they haven't seen it or experienced it. If we work TOGETHER, we CAN affect a change.

Threats and intimidation.... the final solution to the ALPA drive.
Hey, why not throw in the, "vote in ALPA or you'll not get hired at a major represented by ALPA." (it's amazing that SKW guys and gals have been going to majors for 35 years).
Or just generic derogatory missives... your heads are in sand, you're all stupid for not voting in ALPA, el al.
Hey, why not just crack some skulls in the employee parking lot ?
Edit from below... new reasons:
"All you nay-sayers at SKW are selfish, me-me-me types who really don't get it."
"we're stockholm-syndrome brainwashed"
"That you have been brain washed by the ignorant, not stupid (don’t misinterpret), but those who have compiled their opinions based upon a 1.95% ignorance. "
Just read this today on the Majors thread, more love for ALPA:
" Traitors in ALPA"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I have watched in disbelief over the last 8 months as the leadership at ALPA especially that treacherous piece of sh** Prader [bold](my edit... he's the ALPA president)[/bold] has completely ignored the wishes of the group he was elected to represent. His reasoning was this is going to change anyway so why fight it, I talked to an lec chair from united recently and he told me that Prader has been lobbying for it on the sly and behind the memberships back since he took control of the office.
I don't know what is wrong with you guys, but he needs and deserves to be FIRED. This guy is a traitor and completely lacks integrity and you guys know this. Do something about it.

Like no cost of living increase, (when the housing has more than tippled in the past few years)......
....I problem made 40-45k. That’s the same as one of my buddies who is a Forman on a rock crusher, he's home every night and only works 40hrs a week. I still cant afford a house in a good part of town.

So, get that good rock crusher job !!! Free enterprise, ya know.
Personally, I'm holding out for the triple pay I'm going to get with ALPA on board.... so I can get that house that management owes me.

Yeah, everyone said gojet guys would not get hired by ALPA carriers... FALSE.
Careerpilot,
I have heard both about corporate. I went corporate for a month because I wanted to get out of Trans States before I got furloughed. The pay for majors will come back up, but all of us regional guys down here complaining and making posts just isn't going to do. I have said it time and time again, take Skybus, Allegiant, Maxjet and all of the other who are flying bigger planes for less and management will find someone to fly the plane. There will be no shortage of pilots at the mainline level in the next few years because even though it isn't what it used to be, it is better than being at a regional. We all want more, yet Mesa, gojet, Trans States all continue to operate and find pilots to do the flying. Somehow, they get by on minimal staffing.
By the time we get paid what we want, passenger loads will again require 737's to do the flying and regionals will begin to lose the flying that it was just awarded. I just hope scope takes care of what it should and I get the opportunity to fly for a legacy.

Dude - you're one of those guys that'll demand a 50K salary for flying a B1900 and just laugh as you watch the company go under. Get out of Fairlyland, or wherever you are and see what exactly the industry now is - that is the argument we're having now...
It's so easy to say we're under-paid because we should be making more, isn't it? You talk as though the pay should magically appear tomorrow, without a fight.

Maybe that's the real problem. All you nay-sayers at SKW are selfish, me-me-me types who really don't get it.

So, who's going to help you with that fight? SAPA? Yea, right. Teamsters? Ask the Republic guys how good their contract is. ALPA, although no guarentee, WILL help you with that fight. But only if your pilot group is unified enough.
