It depends on how crappy the workrules are and how willing the company is willing to stick to the contract.

Today I have a 7:40 sit in ORD after a dead to fly one leg for the day. Its quite a waste but at least I get paid 4 hours per day that I am out of base.

A four-day trip I've flown at Air Wisconsin...note the report time, duty end, total time away from base (TAFB) and total credit (in red).

Day, flight number, departure station, arrival station, local departure time, local arrival time, scheduled block, "layover" ground time.

In this paring:
First day was 4 legs: DCA-PHL, then a Nashville turn, then to CVG for the overnight. It was scheduled for 6:58 of total block with 10:47 of scheduled duty time, and a 14:25 layover in Cincinnati.

Depending on what year pay you are on (I rounded credit to 23 hours, instead of 22:58). Also, credit would most likely be around 25-26 hours because of overblocking, but here it is:

yr| FO | CA |.| Credit | Hourly Pay + Per diem = Total
1 | $24 | --- | 23 hrs | $552 + $125 = $677
2 | $35 | --- | 23 hrs | $805 + $125 = $930
3 | $37 | --- | 23 hrs | $831 + $125 = $976
4 | --- | $63 | 23 hrs | $1449 + $125 = $1574
5 | --- | $65 | 23 hrs | $1495 + $125 = $1620

There ya go.
