Best Regional w/ EWR base
Looking for opinions regarding regional based out of EWR, with short or no reserve, that are willing to pay for ATP-CTP.
less reserve > than shinny jet. more flight time > than upgrade time. Planning on getting 1000 - 1500 hours 121 and go back to 135. Thank you |

Why not just go straight to 135, usually people go 135 to 121 and not vice versa. What airline in the NYC area isnt junior?
|
I am doing 135 right now, but to reach my TT goal quicker, the easy way is 121. EWR will be 10 min from home, LGA and JFK would be 1:30 with traffic and $15 to $20 in tolls...

CommutAir would be the way to go.

What do you need TT for, fly left seat for a part 135? Not trying to be sarcastic, just curious, idk much about 135 ops

getting the hours, and an ATP ride now, that is easy to get both, just in case economy tanks again in a couple of years ( I am betting on 2019/2020, we will be back to the no hire / furloughs age.. i hope i am wrong but economy goes in cycles ). 135 now as a right seat is paying more 20K than the best regional out there, but not flying more than 350 hours year, and not paying for ATP ride.
I will be taking a huge pay cut, but is needed for progressing on my career. I love my schedule and the type of flying i am doing now, and that is why I want to come back to it... |

well you are right, regarding the mandatory retirement, no questions about it, now factor in the possible merge between regional's, due to all the issues with staffing, or / and possible taking the regional flying to the mainline... it is hard to predict anything on today's world, so I believe in be ready and prepare for worst...
there is a big flux of new pilots into the business,(just look at Flight schools student load, more than they can train) they are a lot of them overseas, about to head back home, after teaching the Asians how to fly a plane... everyone is counting on all those nice new jets on order, and how much crews will be needed to staff them, but how about the airframes that will be retired meanwhile??? I dont think this will look so good in a couple of years, the peak of hiring was/is happening since 2014 up to the end of this year. I hope I am wrong. |
