I'd take the fly 17 hrs a month, get paid for 75... vs. fly 76 and paid for 76.To each his own I guess. I would gladly fly on reserve rather than sitting... it's not even reserve that sucks it's the fact that I literally never fly. |

You only make these statements because you are not bored out of your mind on reserve. I have only flown 5 legs this year... and only have 135 hours in the airplane since my date of hire in June.

Just wondering how long some of you have been on reserve and if I should embrace it or start to get frustrated. I'm not going to lie I am getting really burnt out on this reserve thing. My date of hire here at AWAC was June 25, of 2006 and I have flown less than 150hrs since then. I actually started reserve in September and was just awarded another reserve line for March... that is 7 months including 2 months of ready reserve!!!!
I have a friend who was hired at a regional a few weeks prior to your Hire Date at AWAC and she has flown over 500 hrs in the CRJ 200/700, is 50% of the way up on the FO seniority list, and she might have the opportunity to upgrade by the end of this year. If you apply and work diligently toward earning employment at your "FIRST" choice Airline then logic says you should be happy there (Because you did your research . ..remember) whether reserve or flying the line. Doing your homework pays off. |

When I got on here upgrades were 2.5 years and dropping. I was told by guys here to expect less than 3 months of reseve... trust me, I did my homework. If you know what you are talking about (and that assumption still stands) at all I expect that you know that the industry/company can change over night. I am glad to be here... I don't mind having the best cotract in the industry at all... This thread was simply started to hear about what reserve was like at other airlines... so don't talk down to me. Let it be known that if I had it to do over again and had to pick a regional airline I would still choose AWAC. |

So now, after a year at Airline X they move laterally and are 6 mos and 200 numbers under the guy who waited 6 mos to get hired at SkyWest or XJT in the first place. Funny how that works. |

Things will pick up, new hire classes confirmed.... we are a little overstaffed right now, but like someone above said... it could all change overnight. Three years ago XJT probably didn't see CAL farming out their flying... AWAC thought it was in a 10+ year deal with United, and I don't think anyone really saw the 146's being parked... Comair was the place to be in terms of $$$ and QOL.... Skywest was a small airline out west that wasn't even really on the map yet. A lot can happen between now and Jan 1, 2008. IMO, you probably shouldn't criticize why someone chose the place they did. Based on the above description it sounds like Mesa...maybe SkyW......but, I would rather be selling cars than working at Mesa. |
