Default DHC-8 QRC vrs Memory Items...

Looking for feedback from any DHC-8 operators currently using Quick Reference Checklists versus Memory Items.

Need to know if there are any DHC-8 operators that have modified / replaced the manufacture procedures with QRC's to reduce the laundry list of factory memory items.

Thanks !

In my experience a QRH doesn't replace memory items. You still have certain responses that are performed from memory. The QRH has the memory items listed so you can verify you got everything then continue on with the appropriate EMERG or ABNORMAL checklist.

No QRC or QRH at PDT. We just learned the memory items, then went to the Non-Normal and Emergency Checklist. It wasn't so bad, if I remember right there were 13 Immediate Action Memory Checklists. Some were simple, and others were similar so it made them less intensive to learn.

Some Delta-related airlines have no memory items at all now, just an immediate action card.

The other DHC-8 operator besides Piedmont is using memory items, an IAC, and an E&A checklist book (QRH).

I used quick reference cards for the ATR in the American Eagle days. These days I fly the Dash and UH60 helicopters part 91, and the memory items between the two are out of control....

I got type rated in the Dash in Seattle. Was told back then that Horizon Airlines eliminated most of the memory items from the Dash with quick reference cards. Can anyone confirm this information?

I am trying to present and sell the idea to my training department.

Thanks you for all the replies....

Horizon still has quite a few memory items for limitations, but not very many memory procedures for emergencies.

The only memory procedures still in use at QX are for takeoff abort, engine start abort, pitch and roll control jam, and the O2 mask donning procedure.

As far as engine failures go, all we need to memorize are the profiles for engine failures on takeoff, approach, or missed approach (and single engine missed), but all of the checklists for actually dealing with the engine failure are run off the Immediate Action Card, which can then refer to stuff in the emergency/abnormal checklist binder.

Speaking of Horizon, I remember them saying a while back they were going to try and make our checklists/IAC more simple...If they did I must of missed it.

Hell, our before start checklist alone has 31 items lol.
