Not to mention Turbine transition courses. So in theory I can apply there for their Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science program and get all of my ratings and build time as an instructor part time? |
That's rather humorous. But if it helps you sleep better at night, so be it!

I hear that a lot actually.
Do I regret going? Yes, to a point. Would I have done things differently to take advantage of everything they had to offer? Yes, you bet. Maybe it wouldn't have been so painful if I had. |
If I were starting today. I would get a private license, buy a $15000 airplane, fly it as much as possible, go to community college, transfer to get 4 year degree (if your major is not in flying then you don't have all your eggs in one basket), get the remainder of licenses and ratings, apply for jobs, sell airplane.
I have nothing against the 4 year degree at an aviation college but it sure does cost a lot. I have a theory that foreign countries have so many people attending these Universities that the price is inflated. They always have the latest and greatest equipment. That is great but keeps it expensive. All young people today have no problem learning aircraft computer systems. The key is to know how to fly the plane when the stuff breaks. Just my two cents worth. Have fun. Meet as many people you can. Be open to moving anywhere. Don't commute. Help other people out. Be humble. Challenge yourself. These are great times for someone getting into this gig. One more thing. When you get there max the 401k until it hurts. Live like you are going to get furloughed cause you will. |

And let me tell you, it's certainly not because of the education...

I'm just curious, what young you have done different? I would have attended a community college for two years to get the basic classes out of the way (making sure they would all transfer). While I was at CC, I would have tried to get my PPL & IR. Then, I would go to ERAU for Aeronautical Science with a minor in Air Traffic. I would also have finished my Comm and Multi-Comm to meet the needs for the degree. But, most importantly, I would have done a better job networking and taking advantage of any extracurricular activities to try and pull as much value out of the school as possible. And I would have tried for better grades. |

Just my 2c !! Also get the degree, not worth the gamble, headache, or heartburn of stressing out why you're not at a legacy while all your buddies are, trust me, iv been there. |
