Default Layovers

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what you regional airline pilots do on a typical layover besides sleeping.
Do you have enough time to use the exercise rooms, swimming pool, hot tub, etc. in the hotels?? (I like to run)
Do the hotels airlines put you up in normally have restaurants in them or do you have to go searching for dinner?
Anything else????

Depends on the overnight. Some are reduced rests with as little as about 8.5 hours of rest, in that case, sleep is about all you can do. Some are as long as 22 hours, or even longer than that (like the Skywest coveted Inyokern overnight). In that case, I sleep in, eat a slow lunch, go run, hit the pool, visit the China Lake Naval air museum (pretty cool), eat a good dinner (slowly again), watch TV, then go to work. Most if not all hotels have workout rooms and pools. Also, most hotels do have food nearby, and the hotel van is usually very helpful in driving you to pick something up. However, I can usually pack most of my food in my cooler bag for a trip. Saves money, and also eat alot healthier which is important in this job.

all depends, like said above some are short others are long. Here at Express jet any over night thats 16+ hours you stay down-town, or an area of interest. But any hotel that we stay at has plenty to do, only a few in the system that i can complain about. All depends on who you are, i can make fun of any situation...

Choose wisely on your regional....

We've got some pretty good ones here at ExpressJet that are 30+ hours. Especially down in Mexico. Definitely more than enough time to get in to some trouble. Nothing like pulling the captain off a fat girl at 0530 so you can get back to your hotel.
