Flying as much as you want vs 1.5 years to reach 1000 hours seems like quite the disparity. I see people saying you can fly 80 hours a month if you're willing, meaning that you got 1k before 13 months.

Most people will sit some time on reserve. Maybe you will fly maybe you won’t
theres also the matter of vacation, recurrent, sick, block vs credit (especially for cancellation), and 117 limits
Although an individual who chases 1000 logged with single-minded devotion might do it within 13 months of hitting the line, that isn’t the norm nor achievable on a population level

Slightly different subject but I think it has a place here. How quickly would someone with the required upgrade experience (right at 2500TT and >1000 121 in a large turbojet a/c) realistically be able to upgrade after getting hired this month if deemed ready? I’m looking to make a move out of freight dogging and into the pax world. I know there are direct entry captain positions out there elsewhere but RPA looks like a great place to work with the basing options (specifically having both EWR and PHL) and work rules.

We arent filling upgrade classes right now. You could bid for a slot with your initial bid and get it. That would basically mean you'd go through initial and basically right after start upgrade. However, I'd try to get on at a LCC or legacy if you have the experience you have
Thanks for the info. I’ve got apps out to a few of those as well but getting some TPIC and exposure to a new operation feels like a good next move if they don’t come calling.

Yeah, think this one through. My suggestion, make a move to ULCC if you want out of the freight dog world or wait it out where you are.
