Interview / Flow
If you want to guarantee you’ll never have your foot in the door on a flow, go fly for Republic or SkyWest. Both are great places to work, but they are too big and will never be wholly owned nor have a flow agreement. You’ve got to go fly somewhere with a little less QOL to reap the benefits of a flow.
Flow is a mirage. I know people who got to the majors faster via Republic than via the current flow times from other companies.
Think about it why would say Delta want to hire any more of say it’s Endeavor pilots than it has to - instead of poaching away pilots from other flows and other companies entirety. They don’t want to hurt Endeavor, and they wouldn’t mind hurting AA and United...
Flow is a carrot. And only guaranteed to AA...

Piedmont and PSA are currently flowing pilots who have been on property about 5.5 years. Hardly a mirage for them. No that is not indicative of what a new hire now can expect, but flow is certainly not a mirage.

There's no flow at Republic because we aren't a wholly owned subsidiary of American. AA WO's are the only ones with a true flow where once you're in, it's pretty much a guaranteed job....if you don't screw up along the way. If you want that, go to those airlines. With hiring the way it is and will continue to be, flow is just delayed gratification.

That's great, but you can literally get anywhere you want to be in under that time right now if you put the work in. However, QOL at the AA WO's is laughably horrible. Once you get to AA, things aren't much better right now either. It's great to have a guarantee, but getting your time somewhere you don't go to work hating your company to eventually land at another airline that actually has their stuff together is even better IMO. Plenty of guys around here that are out in 3 years to their final destination, and it's already picked up significantly this year.

We serve 3 masters. Why would one give a flow agreement and the other 2 don't? The other 2 masters would get upset. Even if we weren't partially owned by the 3 of them, I still give it a low to no probability we'll ever have a flow so long as we continue to be utilized by 3 airlines. I would believe we'd get a flow of sorts to another third-party airline before AA, UA, or DL. UA has Aviate for exclusive carriers, AA has WO flow, and DL has 9E's DGI program. The common denominator for all those airlines is they serve only one master, so their pilots are the preferred candidates.
Quite simply, don't come to Republic if you don't have a 4-year degree or you're too lazy to work your way out. That's what the flow is for. The tradeoff here is you will have markedly better QOL during your time here than you would at a regional with any sort of flow agreement. If you put in the work, you'll be out of YX quicker than you could flow at an AA WO. Otherwise, it's really not a bad place to stick around for a while if you have to. Things should only improve in the next contract if they plan to keep the rosters stocked.
