You’re right. But it’s all going to depend on how long this thing drags on for. Don’t think they won’t furlough to save a few bucks if this lasts through the summer.

I would say this then, yes it is still great to go to a Regional and if your goal is a Major airline, the sooner the better. However, do not quit your cargo job until you are in class at a Regional. And when you do quit, make sure it is on good terms so they may accept you back if things do not work out or **** really starts to hit the fan in the 121 world.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight.

I’m not trying to be pessimistic, but 9 out of 45 isn’t great. That’s only 20%.. And out of those 9, how many had prior military experience? My guess is the majority. So for a pure civilian pilot, the current odds of moving from YX to the Big 3 still aren’t great. Probably less than 5% of those moving to the Big 3 are pure civilian with no military background.

I totally agree. those are the facts. it is only a theory but I believe that these numbers reflect the fact that republic
is responsible for 30% of domestic mainline flight. they are not gonna rob peter to pay paul. we have been doing this for over 10 years because WE are cheap! at some point it may reach diminishing returns where they may have no choice but to hire us.

I also contend that their may be scores of pilots that interview get rejected and don't admit it.

Why? Hopefully you’re not basing this just on the Coronavirus headlines. The sky is not falling.

Whether the media hype is justified or not people aren’t flying and that’s what matters. I think a lot of people are unaware of how bad this is financially for our industry and how bad this could be if this continues on for the next few months.

Would your advice be different for a CFI? I have a ATP CTP and Indoc date with YX 2.5 months out. Haven’t signed any papers though..

You have 2 months to wait and figure this out. Give a 2 weeks notice to your CFI job. In 2 months we will have a vastly better idea of how the industry will be.
