We're a privately owned business. UA is a portion of that ownership group, but that doesn't mean we don't have autonomy over our decisions (to an extent, just like any other company with stakeholders). The leadership of RAH has a fiduciary responsibility to the stakeholders, and if it was determined that opening a base (and all the associated costs that come with that) would not generate the return required to justify the expense, we can decline to bid just like any other non-WO airline.

By saying no. How else would it work? United doesn't run this Airline, nor does Delta or American for that matter who also have similar stakes in the company.

Fingers crossed that one day it will happen. I am new here and between this thread and the PDF route chart from the Republic site, I had my hopes up..

Because YX is probably just a holdover until EV gets more 175s... Goes for all of our UA flying. UA will replace it for cheaper.

For starters, because AAL and DAL also own Republic, so UAL doesn't get full reign over Republic.

Heard the other day straight from a horses mouth (weird a horse could talk) that DEN was offered. Would be used as a launching point for west/southwest flying. RPA turned it down, too far from IND/CMH/PIT maintenance superstations and would be too hard to get the airplanes back in to the mx system.

United went to xjet next and apparently DEN is right around the corner for them.

At least the DEN 2.0 rumor was fun while it lasted.

While I heard that rumor due to a more west cost not A Denver base plus it takes 5+ hours to get someone there. If you have an out of base reserve you lose a day on the way out and the way back so staffing is hard. Then MX too and they would have to hire an entire base of mx workers and get space and parts, etc or lose a lot of revenue flying getting the plane back and forth.

I also think Denver is prob being held back and to be used as a recruiting tool for the non wholly owned wholly owned united operators.

As somebody already said, if United can't commit more then a year if we open the base there then they can take that base and their 27.234% share of the company and shove it up their @#@

DEN base......DEN has always been a disaster for RAH.

i took a job at RAH for the DEN base flying 170s to Mexico for Frontier, seemed like a lot of fun. After 2 months of driving to work Frontier went bankrupt and DEN closed.

fast forward to buying Frontier and a 190 base opening. Guess who couldn’t get it? I was involuntarily displaced to Shuttle out of seniority order when DEN closed. So now I can’t bid DEN because not allowed to lateral. So I spend my time commuting to ORD while junior pilots drive to work.

BUT that’s ok!! I got Q400 CA and there’s a DEN base! But wait all the Lynx pilots will remain in DEN out of seniority order so you can commute to MCI......

no matter now as all the DEN bases are closed. DEN is like kryptonite to RAH and has failed every single time it has been tried.

Another part of the problem is Republic’s reliance on these massive outstation maintenance hubs in the northeast. 3 of them being in like 300 square miles of each other, it’s ridiculous. You can’t consistently fly west without a larger maintenance presence outside the northeast corridor.

At the end of the day Republic will never be anything more than a northeast regional. Bedford said it himself.
