Maybe this is why there is a disconnect?
It does sound like you should add the caveat that those trips you picked up were from all bases, not just your base

I’ve also previously stated this too. I mentioned that you have to be flexible and be open to pick up out of base.

You may have stated it prior but where are you based? (If you don't mind saying) To make your hours did you pick up trips from ANY bases or just close by?

I was EWR based, but picked up out of base consistently. If you only pick up in base then you’ll probably get a one or two trips. Of course, YMMV. During the summer when we had flying, almost all my trips were in base, during the off season (the last 2-3 months), I had to pick out of base to make it work.

My suggestion has always been to stay flexible and don’t limit yourself to your base.

When FOs got paid $46.36/hr, no it’s not. That’s not enough to pay rent in the NE (and in most places) let alone support yourself nowadays.

Have a dual income household, but the other person can’t just pick up and leave to another job that’ll match pay? You’re commuting. Have a side hustle to help pay bills and can’t move that over? You’re commuting. Spouse is a lawyer/doctor/nurse/whatever and needs to pass the other state’s exam to practice said career? You’re commuting.

No, commuting is not always a choice. This is the oldest argument out there and it really highlights the ignorance of a lot of people in this industry.

What does this have to do with opting into commuting to bases other than your own to pick up flying

Union: "commuting is difficult and expensive. We'd like commuter benefits"

BB: "it can't be that difficult or expensive if people are commuting to multiple bases a month to fly"

BB is smiling
