Republic losing big on Q400 operation.
Every station hates these airplanes. Canceling all the time for MX.
Today (1/11) in DEN... 48% controllable completion factor! Yes, they operated only 52% of the schedule or were canceled due to weather.
3 airplanes currently downed for major mx. I guess waiting for parts. (Anyone with knowledge, care to fill in?)
What I am hearing from my friend in ops in DEN, they have yet to operate a single day above a 90% completion factor or a 60% on time. I am also being told that a 70% completion factor is more typical and closer to 30-40% on time is more typical.
I hope Bedford loses big on these. Same goes for Smisek... I don't take pleasure seeing passengers plans get screwed up, but I take personal satisfaction seeing what must be, massive losses on these airplanes.

Hope the losses that satisfy you don't end up costing your job.

I feel bad for their pilots and FA's. Anytime ANY airline tries something new like a base, airplane, or even a terminal it is a complete circus and it always affects the frontline employees the most. They probably don't know what is going on either and I don't think they get paid for cancellations so it is most likely affecting them financially. I hope things smooth out.

They are starting from ground zero. What used to take 2 hours to fix in the beginning eventually took a 2 second crew reset.
It is imperative that the plane be flown by pilots with a lot of time in type and worked on by mx with a ton of time on type. It is a total hangar queen but an experienced crew (pilot/mx) can keep it pretty reliable(ish) (credit to smittey).
In the beginning, we couldn't do a turn without a 30 minute delay. My last months on it were good. I recall very limited issues or hiccups. They are lucky they are going to familiar stations so they don't have to deal with the cargo door issue. We'd air return only to do another air return out of CLE for a while.
Horizon is a testament to this. No one has it figured out more than them and I doubt if they run high 90s completion either.

The Q was a nightmare as times. When it works, it does the job very well. My fourth yr of operation of that plane is when things slowly started to turn around on mx side. The mx crew could easily and most times quickly recognize issues. Preventative mx is what saves that plane. But when it breaks at an outstation, well thats a different story. Especially when any type of message appears on the ED. (Powerplant). That can be a quick 10 min fix or 3 hr mess in my experience. But I would have figured since republic had the Lynx planes still operating the numbers would be a little better.
