FASSTER is my heeeeeeroooooo

There was a fatality yesterday. Faaster you should have the class to campaign for your virtue award somewhere else. A touch of frost on an aileron of a 340 isn’t relevant to the events of yesterday.

So, your response as a passenger on an airline is to go ahead and let a flight take off with ice on the wings with no complaining and no worries and hope you don't end up as fish food in the freezing water at runway's end, like in Anchorage? Seriously? You think that I wanted to make a scene for no good reason? Dude, I have a wife and 4 kids. I had FSDO on speed dial because I called them a week before asking about my own possible aviation start-up company. I simply wanted to live through that take-off. The captain was risking all 26 of our lives by not de-icing. This is serious. I certainly hope you de-ice before takeoff.

So, Mr. Aviation Expert. Would you take off with your wings in this condition?
The only thing missing from you story was “.......and everybody cheered.” |

Looks like a pretty clean wing to me... you raised a fit over this? Interesting.
I know some folks like to bend the rules up north, but everybody in the lower 48 figured out a long time ago that you cannot apply common sense when the pax all have HD video on their cell phones. The FAA will come down like a ton of bricks when stuff like this gets on social media. Word to the wise. If you're going to depart with a "touch" of frost, better have the FA make sure all the cabin window shades are down. Welcome to 2019. |

Pretty clean, but not clean enough. Is a little bit a problem on a straight-wing prop job? Probably not but the rule is zero ice, or deice.

FAASTER lost some credibility calling “frost” “ice.” Nonetheless, rickair7777 is absolutely correct. As for the rest, read up on 121.629. Being “professional” means you do the right thing even when nobody is watching. http://www.tc.faa.gov/its/cmd/visito...20/acicing.pdf |

Sir, the fatality was posted in the news AFTER this discussion began, which is about the overall safety record of Penair. The "class" I had was keeping this story to myself, for almost a year. I think it's perfect timing to post, when everyone is curious about the overall operation at Penair.
If you have a bone to pick with Ravn go do it on the appropriate thread. PenAir has had a superb safety record for years. Suggesting otherwise is patently false. Rickair777 is 100% correct. Every company has “a few of those guys” and we’re no exception. We have all kinds of faults but you find yourself out of your depth for this conversation. Suggesting that breaking the regs is commonplace and is a factor in a runway excursion that took place yesterday is classless and unfounded. The Captain on that flight had an impeccable record and massive amounts of experience in Alaska. He absolutely is not “one of those guys.” If you’re a professional pilot I would encourage you to begin the effort to act like one. A person lost their life yesterday and that’s the tragedy. We don’t know the facts of what happened yet. Let’s wait for the final before you armchair quarterback a pilot you don’t know, who flew a plane you aren’t typed in, for a company you don’t work for. Most likely into a place you’ve never seen in weather you don’t understand. |
