SIC threatened to shoot PIC if they diverted

Edit: this has already been posted in the major airlines forum. Should have thought to look there.

August 2022: Pax had a medical event, the PIC was thinking about a medical diversion. The SIC was a FFDO and threatened to shoot the PIC multiple times if he diverted.

He's been indicted for interference with a Flight Crew.

Really scary to think this FFDO had some serious mental issues....

Awesome. The most useless program for "safety" strikes again. For anyone keeping record, the FFDO program so far has put one bullet hole through the side of an A320 flight deck window, conducted a couple of completely illegal traffic stops and detainment of civilians at gun point, and now threatening a fellow pilot over a potential diversion for a medical emergency.

Zero dead terrorists so far.

I own multiple guns, have a California conceal carry permit, so I'm not some anti-gun nutjob. But I would have zero problems with this program going away.

You clearly also don’t understand the value of deterrence.

Deterrence is when the opposing side knows you are a threat. The public has no idea who FFDO's are.

It’s not the average Joe public that we are trying to deter. Think about it 😉

Let's not disclose SSI/operational details here.

Airlines, FAA, NTSB, the general public and tech: “just ban pilots, they’re all dangerous!”

I’m just waiting for it.

This incident is just a tad bit more serious than flashing a badge, claiming to be on duty, and asking for that good ol' first responder discount at Whataburger.

Keep crap like this up, and FFDO jurisdiction will go from 10 sqft to 0 in a New York minute.

9/11 was a terrible day, no one is denying that. The biggest change that came out of that was our mindset, mentality, that planes can be used as a WMD and no longer will you be flying to Cuba and release some prisoners. What have been the biggest security incidents since 9/11? Lets see, we've had Germanwings, LAM Mozambique, the China Eastern 737, threatening to pull a gun on a fellow pilot, and the mental breakdown jumpseater incident. There was also that Skywest pilot who killed his GF, then stole a CRJ with every intention of taking off and crashing into the mountains in Utah. He took out a bunch of airport fencing, the airplane couldn't depart, and he killed himself.

Yeah, I'll be honest. Statistically speaking, you're far more likely to be affected by a potential inside threat than the potential outside threat. Accidents and incidents have shown that to be the case. And if someone goes loco, I'd much rather deal with that if they weren't armed.

The FFDO program is one of the bigger security risks we have

Punish pilots from seeking mental health care, but let them carry a gun into the flight deck. It makes exactly one person feel good on that airplane.

The thing is we are allowed to ask for a FR discount ever since FFDO status was no longer SSI. See the email from the program in 2019. Flat out says you’re entitled to any discounts that other LE officers get.

Best part is the Glock blue label deals. Even set us up with how to get them. You make it sound like someone’s breaking the law or going to get the program taken away by doing this, and that’s just not accurate so I’ll assume you’re not in the program and didn’t get that memo 4 years ago.

I’ll agree with you on the part of people trying to pull others over. That’s just stupid.
