NTSB: 10 killed in Alaska plane crash.

Company founder/owner piloting and among the fatalities.

Five times the number of fatalities of the 777 Asiana Flight 214 crash, and even here, 276 comments on that thread, two on this thread. Please don't anyone tell me that we expect "little" planes to crash in Alaska, or that planes smaller than a 737 don't count, or are not as important?

I know, there is no salacious video footage of this crash to view, no celebrities involved, etc. There is surely as much or more to learn from this disaster as the 777 hard landing.

Well to be fair....I did just start this thread around 0830 this morning and the Asiana thread has been going on for a few days.

Of course a high profile crash WITH VIDEO is going to generate more conversation. From the other article - we are hardly able to generate ANY speculation!

Yes - I look forward to any more information that might come from this mishap too, but I'll have to dig quite a bit more to keep up with it because it won't be spoon fed like Flt 214.

The rules are different (both formal and informal) in Alaska, and most of the public can't relate to bush flying in a small plane. The statistics are what they are, but folks up there don't seem too fazed by that.

The owner and pilot involved here was probably on top of his game, if he ran a successful company and maintained proficiency in a twotter.

The 777 crash is an absolutely ridiculous set of circumstances involving a lack of core competence from a complete group of people. That's why it's sensational.

It was an Otter, not a Twotter...

That's the way it goes. Any many dozens were killed in a rail explosion in Canada, and many dozens were killed in landslides in China, etc. But the front page is gonna be Asiana and Zimmerman. For most Americans, Alaska might as well be Pakistan. Riding heavy aircraft into SFO is something most people can relate to, so they can put it in context and be suitably horrified and glued to the set.
