The wind he flung along my wings,
On final almost stalled.
And did I know I it was His name,
That I so fearfully called?
And when the goals are reached at last,
When all the flyings done,
I'll answer Him with no regret-
Indeed, I had some fun.
So when these things are asked of me,
And I can reach no higher,
My prayer this day - His hand extends
To welcome home a Flyer.

The final 3 stanzas of "Flyer's Prayer". Seemed appropriate this morning. Godspeed, and prayers for those left behind

RIP Brother and Sister...
4500 fpm... sounds like they were fighting something, some control problem perhaps, or a stall? Obviously, we'll get many more details soon.
This has been a rough couple of months.
Flight tracking site flightaware.com shows the cargo plane, identified by the site and the FAA as flight UPS1354, dropped more than 9,000 feet over the course of two minutes about four minutes before the crash.

Been in a Big Brown A300 jumpseat a few times. Always a great experience, with welcoming & gracious crews, and 100% professionals.
Very sad news this morning.
Here's hoping for the best, reports seem to still be conflicting at this moment.

Who knows... I'm not sure how accurate flightaware info is anyway. I fly heavies w/o pax and have probably done >4000fpm a lot of times. One thing that I learn eventually when I speculate in these matters, is that I am wrong almost 100% of the time.
Prayers for all the families.

7:46 a.m.: Birmingham Mayor William Bell said the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash. Their bodies, he said, are still in the cockpit of the plane and will remain there until the NTSB arrives on the scene.
RIP fellow aviators.
