Default Problems at McDonnell Douglas (AKA Boeing)

Australian/Al Jazeera report on the poor build quality of the 737NG:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR5QIPxfHoE

This news report reminds me of Destination Disaster” which details the reasons behind the failure of the DC-10. From someone with some machining and engineering experience, this both disturbs and does not surprise me. Many machining companies have fancy looking buildings, but are run by cheap mangers that just care about getting product out the door. Combine that with the stress Boeing is placing on the unions and you get bad planes.

Boeing is trying to pull an IBM and move into the service industry. It's the "in thing" among American corporations. If you're good at manufacturing something, make every effort to stop being good at it and run your company to near bankruptcy and then reinvent it so you look like a hero. The bonuses you'll get will be much better that way!
