CNN- "No regulations exist on hiring standards and most pilots are hired at budget hotel conference rooms or old office buildings near airports, with little to no mental screening and no doctors present, we go now to student pilot and aviation expert for more, take it away"

"Let's put cameras in the cockpits" Anderson Cooper says.. Right, because a gopro in the flightdeck would have prevented this.

It's interesting, not even a month ago this forum was debating single pilot cockpits being the wave of the future.

Now we have this-

"Lufthansa, together with other German airlines, has announced the immediate introduction of new rules for the cockpit. It will now be a requirement for there to be two authorized people in the cockpit at all times."

My guess is the future will have to be no humans in the cockpit or at least two, but never one.

I know it is still early with regards to what happen with the accident in Europe but it is interesting hearing the talking heads wonder why pilots don't go through yearly psych evaluations. I don't know about you but I know a good many people who have not passed the delta or united test and they seem like pretty well adjusted people. Let's hope calm heads prevail.

If the sleep apnea hysteria is any indication, calmer heads will be nowhere to be found. Media induced Hysteria rules our world now.

Ahhhh, the hilarity of regional pilots at their most pathetic best. Thanks for the laugh.

Lets face it.......pilots in general.

Few professions are infected with such a wide range of personality disorders, neurosis, psychosis, paranoia, hysteria, extremism (political, social) and general oddness as airline pilots. If detailed psych exams ever become mandatory, I expect the pilot shortage to blossom. Not only will many present pilots be found "questionable" and therefore in jeopardy in what surely would be a poorly thought out vetting process like OSA, but it will keep many who would be found acceptable away as it's simply one more undesirable hassle to add to the already long list of why this profession isn't worth it.

I think if its one, the "other pilot" could be on the ground via an uplink. Think about if a ground station could have taken "control" of the flight. Just something to ponder.

The question is, were they that way before becoming pilots or did this industry do that to them?! I think a study of PTSD is in order.

Or...the guy at the ground station goes off the rails and flies it in to the ground. Keep this incident and the true threats in perspective.
