Just remember that the guy on the ground would be "managing" multiple flights, not just the one.

And that solves this type of thing how?

High speed trains with mag-levitation and vacuum tunnels is future of mass transit. About 100 years from now your children will be telling their grand kids all about how these weird tubes flew through the air.

Lets face it.......pilots in general.

Few professions are infected with such a wide range of personality disorders, neurosis, psychosis, paranoia, hysteria, extremism (political, social) and general oddness as airline pilots.

Sorry to say, but I do not think airline pilots are particularly or uniquely skilled in the messed up department - pretty much every profession has it's statistical share of goof balls and screw-ups. Just that the media, and presumably the public, are disproportionately interested when things go wrong in aviation - and pilots are front and center, so to speak.

The science is sound, but the infrastructure costs will be beyond colossal...far beyond the ability of few tech billionaire angel investors to fund. So it will take massive investor coalitions and/or government sponsorship. And then it would have to be protected from terrorists...a train traveling at high hypersonic velocity colliding with a cinderblock would release energy equivalent to about 40lbs of HE. Still have to stand in line at TSA.

Probably more than 100 years.

Easy big guy. I misread what you were getting at. I agree. My IQ is actually 14.

Pilot medical confidentiality

I am not a pilot, nor do I work for an airline, but I am trying to get reliable information from a reliable source on this issue.

What level of medical confidentiality would everyone here be comfortable with, particularly concerning psychological issues? From what I have heard, a pilot who took the prudent action of seeking psychological counsel when they have difficulty dealing with some issue in their life, could be facing serious and possibly permanent career problems. Is this something that creates a barrier to those who might otherwise benefit from such counsel?

What are the present rules for airline pilots? Is it limited to general HIPPA confidentiality laws?

If someone is diagnosed with something that might impinge on their ability to work by a private doctor, is there a law that would require the doctor to inform the company flight surgeon? If not, should there be?
