Default Privately Owned Tucano?

Condolences to the family. Did not know Tucono's were publicly available - or am I missing something?

The single-engine S312 Tucano crashed under unknown circumstances near Cuyama, about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, on Monday morning, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Sad to hear this.

You can acquire almost anything with enough money. You can register almost anything in the US as experimental, unless it's just a ridiculously dangerous design. Anything certified to another country's civil or military standards is most likely worthy of at least an experimental ticket.

Also the US has bilat certification recognition for both Brazil and the UK.

Exception is for modern US military tactical aircraft...congress forbid the sale of those to the public. You might be able to own and fly one if you acquired it outside the US, I know of a couple private A-6's which were restored from legally acquired scrap, but I'm not sure you could legally own anything newer like a viper.

Yes - in a similar fashion there are a lot of the Czech L-39's around in this country; I peripherally know a person who flies it, ejection seats disabled. You'd have to be a special kind of crazy to strap one of those to your back as a personal operator IMO. But it takes all types.

Sorry to hear about that, I'm unfamiliar with how the Tucano flies but wing loading, speeds and overall specs make it look like a more reasonable plane. Horner sounded quite experienced.

Looking at pictures of the crash scene it appears to be a high energy steep angle accident.

They rebuild them in KEUG at Military Tech Inc. Former British Olympian (Discus) Richard Slaney runs the show (Married to U.S. distance runner Mary Decker-Slaney). Fun to watch them when they do the functional check flights.
