Default De-iced procedure failure

Looking for some insight.

Tail mounted engine aircraft.

Wx conditions: freezing rain/drizzle

Aircraft conditions: contaminated

Aircraft not de-iced type 1(heated), only anti iced type iv (non heated)

Aircraft dispatched.

Aircraft failed to take off due to airfield conditions and returned to gate.

Prior to second dispatch aircraft properly de-iced/anti-ice

Not sure what you're looking for here but type 1 has to be applied before type 4.

Are you a passenger? A lawyer?

If that's what you observed out of a passenger window, it's possible that the aircraft was de-iced at the gate before pax were boarded and then subsequently anti-iced prior to departure as conditions warranted.

An initial type-I de-ice application would provide some hold-over anti-ice protection even without type IV anti-ice fluid.

If the AC was actually contaminated at the time of type IV application, that would be no bueno of course.

Looking for thoughts on outcomes if the aircraft would have taken off and not returned to gate due to EOB. Seriousness from pilot perspective.

There was no type one applied.

Only if the airframe is contaminated, or your deice program requires it.

You won't see it in the airline world, but it is completely acceptable to spray a clean aircraft in a hanger with Type IV before pulling out into active precip.

A number of part 91 operators have procedures in place for this process, which is not prohibited by FAA or by deice fluid manufacturers and in no way whatsoever compromises the safety of flight.

Some more info

From initial type iv only application to the return to gate elaspe time of just shy of three hours. This time spent holding on the apron in freezing rain.

Time from arrival to airport in question till the push in question was approx 7 hours in unknown conditions sub freezing temps

For argument sake: lets say we know for fact that no type one was applied

Are you a pilot with full winter ops training, go to your pro standards group. If you are a passenger or worse, a passenger/lawyer, ask elsewhere.
