Quote: Hello everyone, I am not an employee and getting prepared to drop some applications, trying to gather as much data as I can. Sometimes guys use these forums to gripe and complain about their company - which I understand completely (I work for the USAF... it's a side gig for all of us too). But, everything I can put together from 1000 different sources says that FedEx is still one of the best places to work.

For you folks that are working there now, care to share any of your favorite things, good deals, benefits, etc that you like about the company? Trip locations? Good hotels? Food? Maybe things people don't know much about?

Thanks!
Once you retire there is also no way to get around in the FedEx system , no JUMPSEATS for retirees , we get the customary 75 per cent off shipping though

I think I’d rather pay for the tickets after I retire rather than fly on FedEx’s schedule.

It’s great for commuting, not so good for leisure. But that’s just my opinion.

I love our regional airline non-CBA style reserve call out system. (Best fit, one hour call out, no long call, no pass or cherry picking off rsv)

Also. The domestic hotel system is off the charts. Make sure to have a Marriot Bonvoy number since we stay in lots of Courtyards next to the airport, just like the regionals.

Our cash over crap for the B-fund...top notch.

A-plan that pays a little more than 1/3 of your high five with no COLA... will pan out as long as they dont do a strategic bancruptcy.

Deviation tickets always cost more than whats allotted to get to work..

We never furlough...might go down to 59 hrs of pay but we wont furlough (guess thats a plus)

The pay rates are good and we fly new equipment and maint is good, the crews/ ppl are great and make it easy to come to work plus all the free 🍿& ☕️ You can eat/drink (not being sarcastic). Move to Domocile and bid reserve or instruct in school house...

Very True. (Ask me how I know.)

And after retirement, no worrying about whether you qualify for "higher class of service" - you do. And no worrying if GT will actually book you in your higher class of service, you just go get it, no Insite required. And layovers are where you like, as long as you like. LifeIzGud

Do I sense a bit of sarcasm? 😬

After 12 yrs at a regional, and a retired Delta family member, I have the same opinion. Too many times I’ve seen retired Delta pilots miss multiple flights to their destination of choice. It’s not because they can’t afford it, just they’re inherently cheap pilots...just like all of us.

FedEx’s retirement flight privileges remove all temptation of a free ticket and a voluntary trip through non-rev hell.

Quote: The only people who have a problem with it are those who think their 150% is more important than your 100% out of your m/u bank.

Staffing seems good in most seats. No issue grabbing it out of m/u bank.
It means you are likely working overtime (more days than awarded) for straight pay by picking up open time trips using your M/U bank. Ask any employee, unionized or otherwise, outside of aviation if they work extra days for straight pay. Pick a 20-30 year CA's brain next time you fly with one.

If accumulating and using one’s make up bank that will only pay at 100% is frowned upon, why even have a system of make up hour accumulation?

Either having bank hour is good or it isn’t, right? Is this bank system something management wanted or something the NC negotiated?

What's your opinion? Is it a good deal? What about military pilots that accumulate 1000s of hours in M/U? Do you think they will ever use a fraction of M/U bank? (I wont.) If you call in sick, you can't take it out of your M/U bank. What about OTP banks that are being recycled... which trumps any bank you throw at a sweet double-deadhead to HNL open time trip for straight pay. Makeup banks theoretically allow a pilot to work all month and more at 100%. Win for the company. I do think many aspects of our "bank" systems need to be overhauled in our upcoming negotiations.

So is the only way someone can make a little extra money during this time of the year(especially if you don't live in domicile) is to hope for the slight chance that you might get a draft call or win the AVA lottery, if they even accept it, when you want it?
