I did the math and figured out 3% of our pilots are over 70. 65, I'm not sure.

The other thing is that I have no idea how many of those 3% are PIC or SICs

When / if a 70 age limit goes into effect, I don't see upgrades for less than 10 years but that's my guess.

There are well over 200 pilots on the seniority list over the age of 65 according to a list published more than a year ago. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 8%-10% or more. How many are PIC I'm not sure.

Regardless, I just don't see the company attempting the unilateral imposition of a mandatory retirement age. They don't have the stones to do it and the beancounters will SCREAM about the ridiculous amount of legal fees that will result from the inevitable lawsuits.

Career predictability and insulation from the litigation that would result if/when a fossil crashes a jet are the positive outcomes of mandatory retirement. But in my opinion, a regulatory change is the only way it will happen.

Same goes for responsible scheduling practices.

Don't hold your breath on that regulatory change either....

Does anyone have a guess what the median pilot age is at NetJets? I heard a while ago it was in the mid-late 50s, but I can't back that up.

However, I think the union said a while back the average age that a pilot medicals out is 68. If that's the case, half of our seniority list will be gone in 10 years.

NetJets isn't the place to be for quick seniority growth, but that may change sooner than we think. Unless of course NJASAP finds a serum to put into crew food that keeps those under FDAC monitoring alive indefinitely (just kidding, kind of).

Yes that would be great info to have. Also are there any First Officers hanging in there optimistic that the upgrade times come down?

I've been here almost 13 years as an FO and I can't see myself upgrading in the next 2 years. Plan accordingly.

I left after 11 years as an FO, and was still >85% down the list. I expected another 6-7 years minimum before upgrade into the Phenom.

Let's put it this way. We had to negotiate to get 25 upgrades over the life of our contract.
