Quote: I'm pretty sure that an ATP (or the ability to hold one) is required for employment in the Compass contract.
Dash,

We are talking about whether you can hold a r-ATP at Compass. No one is asking what you need to hold a ATP.

Normal, holding an ATP is required at any 121 carrier, not just Compass.

Point being, an ATP is contractually required. I'm pretty sure the Compass contract makes no provision for a restricted ATP.

A restricted ATP is an ATP certificate. You receive a full type, you test for the ATP and they take your written test. The standards are exactly the same.

You are correct they are the same, but not for hiring purposes at Compass. The contract clearly defines a new hire to have 1500tt. It also explains that you must be eligible for a "captain type rating". I and others have posted the language on this matter. Not sure why some are still arguing it. For those that missed it here it is:

"WHEREAS, Section 11 V.19. of the Collective Bargaining Agreement provides that all furloughed Northwest pilots and all new hire pilots shall be provided a Captain type rating for their original First Officer position at Compass, and
WHEREAS, the parties agree that in order to fly as a Captain at Compass, which is an FAR Part 121 carrier, an ATP certificate with appropriate type rating is required; and
WHEREAS, in order to be eligible to obtain an ATP certificate, certain minimum requirements must be met, among them, that the pilot must have accumulated at least 1500 flight hours and be at least 23 years of age; "

Yes, and that is what I was trying to say. The language that was stated in the previous post, comes directly from LOA 2008-03. That LOA was signed by the Company and upheld Section 11 V.19 language.

That changes it quite a bit then. What was said before was that one have a "captain type rating" and that was it. There's a difference between a Captain type rating and be Captain qualified. Thanks for posting the clarification.

In that case, your argument should also be that you must have 1000 SIC in 121 or 1000 PIC in 135 in order to be legal under the contract. So, are we then saying that everyone hired under the new rules meets the above requirments (e.g. no CFI hires)?

Well we're talking about a contract written 6? Years ago, Captain type ratings or PIC type was different then and the reference was from a few years ago too. Moral of the story is you need to be able to have an unrestricted ATP or 1500 hours in order to get one. With all that said they should pay attention to the 1000 SIC if attrition stays the same otherwise they might have problems with upgrades.
I'm assuming Compass has not changed there contract since the new ATP rule. So maybe the company needs to release guidelines based on the new rule.
I don't think recruiting is having any issues actually. Most people in class are > 2000tt with an ATP.
Can any Compass Pilots here give me an idea how long it takes to hear from someone at Compass once you have submitted an app? It's been a month and I have heard nothing. I have previous Part 121 time including 121 PIC time- and a College degree in case someone was going to ask that.
I even met with Compass folks at a Job Fair in January.

I would really like to fly at Compass. Thank You in advance!
