Quote: The required number is the PBS min staffing number. We cannot operate there, so fret not. They tried this shortly after CH11 and it did not work. There are also a few other reasons why they will not try it again as well. DALPA is to thank on those. (Like winning a staffing grievance)
Yeah, I understand all that, but it still sucks to be technically excess after 12 years.
Quote: You mean into Natco? No talk of shrinking MSP or DTW ops. I was told MSP will be a major MD90 base, with some 320, 330 maybe, and 7ERs. DTW will probably look about the same, with an addition of 737s or MD88s to cover the DC9 departures. The void in MSP will be Natco, and that was probably always known.
Nope, not buying it. Sorry...............we've all seen this movie before. Republic killed Hughes AirWest and Delta killed Western.
Quote: One thing is for sure, if they feel they will have the excess time to move sims, they obviously feel they won't be needed for pilot training.

Looks like I was right about no hiring in 2011.

Personally, I think Bar was right, just a bit early in his prediction.

Nu

Maybe maybe not.

Reality is that this will require them to front load a lot of training on this AE that will soon be published.

That my friend is synergy.

PBS min staffing is really just a number. I suspect that the min we can operate the sked with is about 5-6% more than that staffing number. (Active line pilots)

I know that in ATL we are way short on the ER. Not as short as we have been the last few months but short.
Quote: They'll probably winnow that down to 3 (as many -800 sims as we have) and increase the number of sim sessions per day. Back in the day, DAL training went around the clock to max utilize the sims.

Yes we had/(still have?) training around the clock but, contractually, we cannot be scheduled to do the "E" period sim (early morning hours). Caveat: Unless you are a new hire.

13. A pilot will not be:
a. assigned to:
2) ground or flight simulator training, including briefing and debriefing, between
0100 and 0500 (local time) during qualification training.
Exception: An entry level pilot may be so assigned during such 0100 - 0500

period.
Oh come on, who wants to be the largest airline in LAX and SLC when you could be the largest airline in just Salt Lake City!!!?

I did 9 sims once at a previous airline starting at 1am. It took weeks to recover my sleeping pattern as there were times I'd unwillingly stay up all night or fall asleep at 3pm and wake up at 10pm. Then I went right into IOE. I was only 23 which meant that should've been easy and near normal but that was far different then just staying up late.
Re: NATCO Closing

I have to say I don't see how 8 bays is going to be enough.

A320 - 5 sims
A330 - 2 sims
B747 - 2 sims
B757 - 3 sims (I think)

and that is just the full flight sims, doesn't include FMS or PTTs or the sims used to train other airlines.

The real kicker is that management is STILL stuck on not offering hotel rooms and PS passes to/from the schoolhouse for instructors that don't live where the Training Center is located. If they did that they might not lose so much experience from the instructor corps.

I suppose the FAA will just look the other way and not consider it a safety issue during the "transition" if most of the instructors decide not to move to ATL and not to instruct (at leaston the 747 and Airbii)

It will be even more fun to watch the training backlog. Some sims don't react well to being moved.

My bet is that they will offer what they need to, to get DGS and PCP's alike to instruct in ATL on the 744. Other than that, I am guessing that there will ppl lining up out the door to instruct down here.
