Quote: I think what people don't understand is they HAVE to pay that much to lure people away from a pretty easy legacy job in the states. If they beat Delta rates by $100,000, no one is going to leave the security of their Legacy job to go fly for some shady Chinese company 180 days a year. You have to use economics to overcome all the negative aspects of working over there, and from what my friends who work over there say, it isn't worth it. In fact, many who took jobs in the Middle East making more than some Captains make here are still trying to get on with a legacy in the states.
It's just not a legacy carrier in the US. ANY western airline beats the hell out of a Chinese carrier.

Rode the crew bus some years back with two Emirates pilots. They were flying CPT-DXB, 10.5 hours flight time. Two pilots.
.
Also (this may have changed in the 6 yrs since I heard it) their schedule was 21 days ON, 9 days OFF. They did not bid schedules, Emirates TOLD them their schedule. They said everybody there had this same (crappy) assigned schedule.
.
Pay me double what I make now, the answer is still HELL NO!

When you first do the math it is very easy to say, I can work overseas for 8 years and that will equate to a 20+ year career in the USA based on taxes, allowances etc. Unfortunately, it does not usually work that way in reality and in most cases you give up significant QOL and family ties for the almighty $$$. Furthermore, you have zero protection should you have any hiccups along the way. You are only as good as your last flight and there is no real job security as an expat pilot.

Use it to our advantage guys... "Hey, saw I can make 750k a year at China something, thinking about doing it, reroute early, I'm already typed. What do you think, you too? (Wink twice) let's tell our friends!"

Like most of his posts the title is misleading. It references 750,000 AU not US dollars. Then if you read further as another poster suggested they list saleries no where near that amount. Most around 400,000 AU or about 315,000 US dollars. Those are all in numbers. Now take a Delta 737 CA and post the average numbers with DC plan and profit sharing (364 a hour with 15% PS and 16% DC) and I am very sure management would love for us to negotiate using this comparison.

How desperate are they? Walk in with your 330 type which they probably need desperately and tell them $750,000 USD or no deal. If they want you, they pay. It is a CONTRACT gig, and you negotiate it for yourself. I think it would be fun just to see what their limit is.

"Oh, and tax free as well. However that has to be accomplished, and it is your problem. I have a job, and you need me."

Or you don't.
