Scratch that, that's all those guys with PE's from guys who knew them in a previous life. They are the guys you would actually want to fly with and be stuck with on a 10 trip around the world. More importantly, those are the guys you want in your cockpit when Sh-t hits the fan.

PS - "Guys" is a Gender Neutral Term, I'd hate to offend anyone
So just curious do you feel Pilots are only qualified if someone internally recommends them? I agree it should be given consideration but there are plenty of us who may be very well qualified but don’t know anyone within the company. I’m also in favor of pilots picking who interviews as well as even in our corporate department HR is clueless about who makes a good pilot /teammate.

Yes, and whatever you do not gesture bully anyone with the checklist. You just can't make this stuff up.

Discriminating against people across the board because they have a personal recommendation (falsely pretended to be desired by the company) sounds like lawsuit material. Are they nuts?

That said, the new fo's I fly with are sharper than hell. They both impress me and make me feel old. I don't think they're entitled, they are just aware of better work rules and pay at other carriers. And that's a good thing.

I definitely feel we should interview some pilots with no recommendations, there are some great pilots out there that don't know anyone on the inside. That's what the Dr Kavorkian Computer Matrix was supposed to do for us. Score applications based on certain qualifications and experiences. Recommendations did raise someone's score, as it should. If they are a known quantity, and I'm willing to stake my reputation on someone who's a great fit here, then that should happen.

Where things went south is when the Lawyers got the hammer on who we hire about 3-4 years ago. They decide who interviews and who does not. These NON-PILOT Lawyers actually went in and started lowering peoples scores if they had too many recommendation (not urban legend, it really happened). This is crazy, and as previously posted you can't make this sh-t up.

So guess who stopped getting called? The rock star, test pilot school graduate, Space X pilot who had 10 letters of recommendation. That really happened. Others some of us knew and flew with (mostly military fighter types in the circles I ran in) that were rock stars also were passed on getting the call to interview here. They are all at Delta, American, SWA, and United now.

Now, the same is happening with PEs. Those with PEs are getting punished and we continue to hire pilots with ZERO recommendations in large numbers over guys with a past we can vouch for.

We need to change the sign on the Door of pilot recruitment to "Lawyers Enter by Appointment Only."

Okay, that's a new one. How do you"gesture bully" someone with a checklist? Make obscene motions with it? Rub it on your private parts? I have no clue, but this sounds like a joke.

Misinformation - Ah, no. Did you see the part about "past 6 years, working as a counselor for ECIC, hundreds of clients, phone conversations with 50 folks in the pool recently", etc? I have two extensive Excel spreadsheets full of contact info, dates, etc. if you would like to compare notes. BTW, so far, AlbieF15's macro numbers are backing up the scenario described by my smaller sample size.

Yes the 50+ candidates I refer to over the past two years have been military. True. I no longer work for ECIC and have focused a very, very ineffective effort at helping my friends from military days potentially achieve their dream career here at FedEx. Only 3 hired last year - not exactly a windfall. I agree it is nice for guys in civilian flying gigs to be able to put "2 weeks notice" because they can continue flying for Brand X until FedEx calls. Mil guys, weather retiring or separating, do not have that luxury. They need to pay the rent within a few months of taking off the uniform.

More proof that this is not 'Fake News" comes from the recent meeting apparently held by the MD-11 Fleet Capt. Read AlbieF15's post. Posted on FB as well. I was not in the room, but as I understand it, he divulged that HR has actually used the PE system to discriminate against candidates on a 4 to 1 ratio. Holly Bat She-ite! We were sold a bag of crap, effectively a full blown lie from the top that this PE system was going to mean something. I have stated repeatedly in this thread that I in no way think this is a mil vs civ issue. However, I do hear solid rumors, backed up by solid numbers that there is a bias against those with PE's. It just so happens that the mil guys smelled the stench coming from HR first, because so many mil guys were working hard to get PE's for candidates. I completely agree that there should be an avenue to be a FedEx crewmember, without knowing a sole on campus. However, can we both agree that active discrimination against pilot input in the initial stages of hiring is complete BS? I want you to be able to nominate / support strong candidates from your previous Brand X employer, just as much as I want mil guys to be able to support their strong candidates from their former employer. This is bad for all pilots, you, me, and the other 4700 of us. It is time for some one, preferably someone with a duty title like SR VP, SCP, or Fleet Capt, to step up put an end to these shenanigans. They cannot like this any better than we peons do. The crew force is craving some old school leadership on this issue. Sounds like it might be happening. That makes me very proud to work for those that choose to lead. In the end, we are one team trying to make the best future for this great company.

I agree that is crazy. I’m just on the outside looking in wondering how to score points to get an interview. Have a Masters degree, was a Chief Pilot and DO, I’m a current Safety Manager and I have 5 business jet Types. I know there are probably far more qualified but it seems that I might be in the top half but who knows. Something appears to be missing from my qualifications to be qualified for an interview.
