It should've just been called. "Most dramatic quotes and facts from Spirit of St. Louis, Audio Book"

My personal favorite: Lindbergh flew so low that ocean spray hit his face, helping to keep him awake.
Quote: I do in fact have an update as my committee has heard and fielded many of your concerns regarding the renewing of our snack basket contracts

To: Compass Pilots
Subject: Snack Basket Contracts 2020
From: MEC Chairman, Snack Basket Committee, CA-in-training BobbyLeeSwagger
Date: 1/6/18

To my fellow Compass Aviators:

Your snack basket committee is hard at work behind the scenes as we have been attempting to renegotiate our catering contracts. Surprisingly and unfortunately, this has spilled over into a larger discussion between FFD carriers as to how our snack baskets might be divided up were we to fail. Some in the industry would posit that the customer complaints are symptomatic of a larger need to consolidate our snack baskets with other carriers. They envision our stoopwaffles going to YX, our popcorn to OO, and our belgian waffles to 9E.

However, we believe that this fear-mongering has no place in our snack baskets. Although our company has remained silent on the issue, we are confident our position is strong in 2019. We have a unique product among our peers which can't be easily replaced. Delta knows this and we are certain they will deliver an extension.

We want you to be aware, however, that there is always a chance we might have to make certain contractual concessions, pardon the pun, without a union vote in order to keep our costs down in anticipation of securing a deal. We trust you understand the delicateness of the situation and need you to do your part on the line. Keep the seats down, straps loose, and the leftover baskets available to the next crew. Meanwhile, I will personally keep you updated of the situation with the contracts, unless of course, I were to get an interview somewhere. In that case, my full attention would be on the success of myself. You understand..

Until then,

Eat snacks and fly your contract

As the man says, you don't get what you deserve, you get what you successfully NEGOTIATE:

Snack basket negotiations

Start early and bring it up often for your next CBA.

I'm totally trying that on my next overwater leg.

Quote: Thank you for the question, sir. Forgive the limitations of our manuals. We actually have supplementary guidance in a separate manual: Snack Operations & Procedures manual- SOP for short. Here is an excerpt:

SOP 2-14-6:

1. Any Soda or Pop may be enjoyed in any manner fitting to the flight crew as long as it is consistent with safety.

a. exception: If the beverage is a Ginger Ale it must be enjoyed
in a brown paper bag in the forward galley prior to pushback
provided that:

i. the Ginger Ale can has been washed by FA-A or a legal
company representative
ii. the Ginger Ale has been pre-chilled IAW applicable dry
ice policy
BLS,

It has been said before, but I’ll say it again. You are a true genius my friend! It’s been a while since I’ve read this forum and you had me cracking up. I’m curious if we ever flew together...

Look, all the life lessons you need are in Forrest Gump. Remember what Forrest Gump's mama said? "Dying is a part of life." that's how the airlines are, right? These things will happen, but you can't let it get you down or stressed or start panicking. You just got to make the best decision you can in the situations you find yourself in. I know right now it feels like Compass Airlines is like that little boy Forrest Gump on the bus with nobody giving him a seat... "tayyken" they say.... And little Forrest doesn't know what to do.

But remember when Jenny appears? and says "you can sit heeaaa." So, see? it all works out in the end.

We're trying to cheer you up, but right now you're acting like Lieutenant Dan with no legs in the hospital refusing to take the ice cream Forrest got him.

Take the ice cream homie
But doesn’t Jenny catch HIV/AIDS and then dies leaving Forrest all alone?

Quote: "Cpz sold to Republic fall of 2019, stamp it!"

Sadly, that opportunity may have come and gone. How many regional CEOs have tried to play hardball with Delta and lost?
Delta actually supported Republic Acquiring TSH. It was strictly United that train wrecked that merger.

Quote: What epic load does Republic run? Heard the Compass aircraft have a older processor, that can’t run anything above 25.5.. Republic just ordered a bunch of new E175’s. Could Delta just sell them or return them to the leaser?? When are the leases up?
It doesn’t matter what republic Runs. We have 63 E170’s plus some older E175’s that all have the old processors. We sued Embraer over them trying to stop support of the older processors. It will cost 200K to upgrade each aircraft with new processors, which I think will end up happening over time. All of our planes run the same epic load, so the newer planes are dumbed down. But there is talk that the newest 100 aircraft would be fully upgraded.

As for sim space, Repblic is breaking ground on a new training center and sim facility in Indy this quarter. We have two additional sims being built for us as well. We already own 4 sims, plus these two new ones and then the Embraer sim useage once deliveries start. Between the pilots already in the pipeline and all the new hire classes they have filled from now until December, we would be able to staff any aircraft thrown our way. When I joined two years ago, we had 9.5-10 pilots per aircraft, we currently have over 12 and in that same time frame we added 26 aircraft to the fleet.

And don’t think our lack of presence on the west coast currently means anything. Management has said they want to fly on the west coast. They also know that it is a drawback for recruitment that we don’t have any west bases. The only thing stopping it is they haven’t secured enough flying to set up the structure needed to support it. I however believe they are willing to do that.
