Compass Updates 2: Revenge of the Sit

Do you guys have to say "Speed checks" before each flap selection? We recently got that gem after a couple guys had some overspeeds.
We now can't call for flaps 1 until we're exactly at the FMS speed bug (210). Makes it even more of a pain to get down and their solution is for us to drop the gear at 6000+ feet 20nm out.

I think waiting until exactly 210 is pretty dumb though.
But since you brought this up...I'm giving it til Summer until we have this call.
Nah we don't have to do that. Usually set speed 200, call flap 1. This is my first 121 job, but coming from the 135 world and having friends at other regionals. It seems that here the calls here are built to be short and direct. Not any calls I can think of that are checks besides 1000ft and 200ft calls.

That is the classroom portion of an enhanced upset recovery training program. Stalls, jet upset, icing and bounced landings are discussed.
There is a corresponding module for the full motion sim, which I believe everybody will get at 6M. I think the FAA requirement is that all pilots receive the training by spring next year.

I've heard some guys do it. I just glance at the speed as my hand is reaching for the flaps when I am PM. If I am really trying to slow down and go down I have a 5-10 knot buffer. Smooth, I'll call for flaps 5 knots below it's speed limitation, bumpy it's 10.

80 knots....CHECKS

100% agree!
ABQ is probably the airport I fly into the most. I remember landing on 26 at night without an RNAV visual and never had a problem. I just don't understand why people have such a hard time with a visual approaches.
When the whole SJC night visual thing went down, ABQ was still landing 26 without an RNAV visual which I found humorous.

Ah, another night visual banned and another file about landing with the wrong flap setting. 5% of guys at this airline are once again ruining it for the rest of us.
And to those 5%, please behave like adults while at work.

I don't necessarily disagree, but humans also make mistakes. And I'm not sure how things are "ruined" for you because of actions taken to promote safety... did you really WANT to be flying a tight night visual in the mountains in ABQ? What's the harm on insisting for the rnav visual... maybe it seems crazy but it's good that something that should have never been allowed in the first place, is actually banned now, properly in my opinion. Also, it's pretty normal to make mistakes and sometimes @*&t happens after a 11 hr 5 leg day, we've all been there... File your ASAP, move on with your life. There's two sides to every story and I withhold judgement without knowing the other side... you're very quick to judge your fellow pilots, but I'm sure you've done plenty of dumb stuff in the airplane too. Slow down and use the damn checklist... musta been go home leg on that flap setting one.
