Quote: I know it was not your intent but these kind of rumors are best left off of web boards and kept in the cockpit. If it becomes fact then so be it. Speculation only leads to angst among those who could lose jobs or seats. If the Dream Lifter or any other Atlas, Southern, Kalitta Air, ABX, ATI or any other companies flying migrates to another ACMI carrier it usually means a loss of flying and possibly jobs at the carrier losing the contract. Unfortunately in this part of the aviation business somebodies gain is often at somebody else's loss.
Assuming you read other threads on APC; you'll see ABX is on the ropes, loosing flying (and their minds it seems), extremely protracted contract negotiations among a host of other things.

What are the chances, if any, that K4 would hire B767CA's off the street?

I think many will soon be searching for a new place to finish their career, first officers who are 767 current, as well as captains who have many years of experience in type.

Quote: A friend of mine said that K4 was getting the dreamlifter contract and that we possibly may pick up some type of Haji flying from Atlas! Any truth to either one of these? The dreamlifter would be cool..
Atlas doesn't have a Hajj contract, unless there is a brand new one not announced yet. Atlas has said nothing official about a renewed contract to fly the LCF.

Are you asking if they would hire guys directly into the left seat, bypassing seniority? If so, not gonna happen.

It's more of a question of whether they are (or get) in a position where they are expanding quicker than the current seniority roster has the ability to upgrade. While it's mostly at regionals, some airlines have minimum upgrade requirements or desire a higher level of experience than present within their current roster. Generally it's geared toward more complex operations (areas of operations) or a/c types. Many new-hires (not all) can be from the regional ranks or below and do not posses such experience initially. Not really any different than regionals having occasional direct-entry captain positions.

Not in the foreseeable future. If you’re holding out for it, you may be waiting a very long time

Another way of asking the same question would be do you foresee a K4 767 Capt bid going insufficient ? That scenario, though admittedly far fetched, would open the door to new hire Captains. I didn't see anything in original post stating anything about bypassing seniority.

Several recent cases of DL MD88 bids going to second yr isn't terribly far removed from them going to probationary pilots. The Republic Airlines of the early 80's allegedly had probationary (though probably not direct entry) people holding CV580 Captain.

Was there another set of interviews this past week? (like 9/12 or 9/13) Thought I saw someone say they had one this week. Just wondering how many got hired out of that group if there was one.

The ALPA email newsletter I get had the following blurb re Kalitta hiring:

ASA AND KALITTA MECS TEAM UP FOR PREFERENTIAL HIRING OPPORTUNITIES

The ASA MEC, facing an airline loss of all mainline flying by the end of this year, collaborated with the Kalitta Air MEC and management to create a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that formalizes a preferential hiring program for legacy ASA and legacy ExpressJet pilots. Under the MOU, Kalitta Air will interview and hire up to 150 pilots through December 31, 2018.

"Thus far, the program has been a great success for both ASA and Kalitta MECs," said Capt. Chromer Smith, ASA MEC chair. "The good news is every ASA pilot who wants a job or needs one, while they sort out their futures, has one."

The Kalitta Air interview team scheduled two rounds of interviews with ASA pilots—one in August and one taking place today and tomorrow. The accepted applicants find out by the end of the session if they're hired. "During the first session in August, Kalitta hired 36 ASA pilots," Smith said. "And when the Kalitta team debriefed us prior to heading home, they couldn't say enough about the spirit and character of the ASA pilot group. We know they'll get another good round of applicants this week, as only 7 slots remain for the 80-some preferential interviews."

Other ALPA carriers have joined Kalitta in giving ASA pilots a leg up in the interviewing process, be it formally or informally. For example, Delta gave all ASA pilots a bump in their interview process. "A big debt of gratitude goes to our fellow ALPA pilot leaders and our staff, who have been instrumental in orchestrating this effort," Smith said.

I doubt you or anyone else would enjoy your time at K4 as a DEC that jumped a senoirty line, we have a pretty solid group of guys over here and I just don’t think it’d go over well. With that said, the next couple bids may go super junior. So maybe you only spend a couple months in the right seat.
