Yup that’s the one thing I mentioned in a previous post, but I don’t think that is enough to sway me if I’m looking at career expectations and choosing between AA and SWA right now, in 2019.

now but what happens in a downcycle? You can’t rely on it-
SWA has never furloughed-sort of.
even in a downcycle there are so many retirements ahead at AA that someone hired today will most likely not see furlough-sure they might get displaced to a lower seat/plane resulting in less money, but the same thing essentially happened to SWA in ‘08(SWAPA working out a deal for less hours to avoid furloughs)
No airline is furlough proof, but someone hired today at AA will have an amazing career...someone hired
tomorrow? that could be another story
If it’s 2008? Going to SWA. 2014+ going elsewhere...until about 2023.
