nope - and sign up for all of them. You never know where you end up and there is really no downside to joining all of them out there.

I participated in the pathway program, but chose to work at a different airline. I emailed my recruiting contact to thank them for the opportunity and withdraw from the program, then mailed my cadet badge back to SGU. Informative program, no strings. Would recommend.

Quote: Do you have a CFI? Yep! Ok great, you’re in!
I wasn’t at a “partner school” either and neither were my other two CFI buddies and we all got calls within a couple days of applying.

Apply, and get a call to schedule the onboarding ‘welcome to SkyWest’ meeting. We’ll fly you to SLC for a day. Congrats, you’re now a cadet.

Being in the cadet program will get you an interview prep session, better seniority in your new hire class ( put me ~30 numbers up in my class), and starts your seniority for benefits (I.e. bonuses/medical/etc).

Definitely put your app in, there is literally nothing to lose! Zero commitment like the other programs have (envoy).

Seniority for benefits starts a month prior to training class date, am I correct?

Nope, seniority for benefits (non-rev travel etc) start when you do the Cadet Indoc.
Cadets can use non-rev travel a month before class date. At least it used to be that way

Hey all! I applied a couple of days ago and was just wondering how long it took for some of you to hear back from Skywest? If you were accepted what was the process like afterwards?

It took me over a week to hear back. You will get a date to go to orientation then build your hours and set up a time to interview. Good luck!

Hello guys, I’m in the pathway program but without tuition reimbursement, if I would move and work for a partner school like L3 for example which is showing on the website as school with tuition reimbursement, will I be able to obtain the $$ still or it has been cancelled ?

I haven't heard anything, but I never paid attention to that stuff either. It's not something management really broadcast to the pilot group.

I can't imagine they'd still want to spend money on stuff like that. There are going to be a lot of very experienced pilots to hire from on the market the next several years, along with the contractual obligation to hire UA furloughed pilots. I cant see another new hire class being run for at least a year either.

Not that my opinion matters much.

Call them, get it in writing. If there's an out clause, expect that they might use it. Get or keep any flying job you can at this point. Things are going to get a lot more competitive, jobs will be harder to find, they will pay less, and management isn't going to play nice as they have been.

Plan to not get the tuition reimbursement. SkyWest is conserving all cash, that includes not taking delivery of planes (pipers) that SkyWest Leasing, leases to some partner schools. Also a lot of the partner schools are no longer advertising the tuition reimbursement.

I haven't heard anything about the program. I don't think they want to furlough us or end the program until October (CARES Act) because we are technically employees as of whatever date we did the tour of SLC or DEN. I don't think we are costing skywest any money and its a good way to keep a hiring pool interested for when hiring starts in months (likely years) from now. I was scheduled for a class in August and I don't think that will be happening, but nothing official yet. I update my hours on the website and log in occasionally even though its down to 5-10 a month at this point.

The other cadet program I am in (for another regional) has told us the program will be dissolved in October.

The school I was at (Hillsboro) ended their tuition program with skywest. I wasn't going to get any of the 17k tuition reimbursement anyways because I did not want to work for the school as an instructor.

Its just a game of hurry up and wait. It was a rush to R-ATP minimums and now its wait until thr economy gets better. I planned my career change with the hurdle of getting hired at ATP minimums. If thats not going to be competitive to get hired I am going to have to re-evaluate if I want to spend time and effort to get more hours or just wait until the shortage is back to get hired at minimums
