Quote: I’m not miserable I like working here but we need to adjust our way of thinking. I’d love to know what qol provisions we took instead of an extra buck. All I see is concessions and many of the same work rules we already had. You think the legacy unions don’t value qol? Yet, they seem to get the money too. I love the argument that people are coming and staying for qol. What exactly is it that we have that others don’t? The grid and that’s it. It’s a big one and had to be arbitrated to protect. It’s it though. We gave back just about everything else. With the ability to waive down the 4 days is useless to most you end up sacrificing most of your schedule if you don’t waive.

Is it the commutability
Is it the required trip mix
Is it the high min day off
Is it being able to pick your rap even if you’re the number one rsv bidder
Is it the calendar day average

It must be the 10hr 3 days

Or maybe it’s the hotel language that keeps us in only 4 or 5 star hotels even if it’s a short overnight with “walk language”. If it’s not up to par.

Maybe it’s actually having hotels and transportation booked.

Yeah we are killing it in the qol department.

There is a difference between being happy and having ones head in the sand. I’m happy but my eyes are open and know what we are worth.
You’re miserable. If not, you sure do complain a lot. Nobody asked you to be the educator of all things contract and career.

If you think your QOL sucks, it’s probably nothing to do with our contract, it’s you.

I will make more this year than last year, even with the signing bonus, and life is great. Home whenever I want and I’m liking PBS way more than like bidding. More gains need to be made, sure, next time we will get more...and if guys get off their butts and get involved, we stand a better chance.

Until then, get off your soap box, nobody is buying what your selling and it’s just noise for almost all of us.

You sure respond a lot to “just noise”.

We want the same things. A group that is content isn’t motivated though. Fact is also a lot of folks aren’t educated as to what’s in other contracts and in our own.

Thanks to all who've responded. Looking forward to the interview (really) and I hate to interview, I think we all do. Not going to let my guard down, I know this is an interview, but it seems like they are more interested in people than being a super pilot.

I've never been an "OMG, I must be a legacy pilot or nuthin' " type. I don't need to be a transatlantic widebody driver to make myself happy. I want a step up in QOL from what I have as a regional captain. No place is perfect, I don't expect Spirit to be either.

I'm lucky to have what I have, but I'd rather take the chance to move now before I get too comfortable at my regional (six years and top 10 percent of captains) and regret it later. I am hopeful I get that chance Friday.

100% agree. All the best on Friday!

If I had to choose between being content and being motivated, I'd choose contentment. Am I a "yes every time" voter? Nope. Do I see problems that need improvement? Yes. Does that mean I think I have to be worked up and complain about everything and never feel like what I have is good enough? No.

I think it's unhealthy to be always unhappy with what we have as some sort of improvement motivation mechanism.

In July I had a lot of important commitments with friends and family. I dropped everything and had a blank canvas to do whatever I wanted. I built my own schedule in July. I didn’t miss anything the entire month that I needed to attend. You cannot put a price on this kind of flexibility until you experience it. You just cannot. It is incredible.

This conversation will ultimately lead to the arrival of a delta bravo number 2. The only telling everyone this place now sucks and is garbage after the new contract. 🙄

I left a competing LCC for Spirit. One with horrible work rules and QOL.

I know have 4 days off at a time (minimum) and can do whatever I want and need to my schedule to enjoy my personal life. For me my life is 1000% better here.
I left the same place you did (there are a handful of us here). But the qol after the new contract is worse then before, its great that you are able to drop everything but thats not true of everyone (base/seat) I'm not unhappy here but we do have a ways to go and lost ground.

I'm not unhappy here but all of this is spot on. As soon as anyone points out short comings here the kool-aid drinkers come out in force to defend our qol.

Please report back with details on how it goes. It looks like I’ll be interviewing sept 19-20th. They’re still waiting to sign a contract with a hotel for a interview location.

They aren’t doing the interviews at the “learnatorium” anymore?

I was told that they're doing more interview classes each month now, and are having issues finding venues to hold them. I am confirmed to interview September 19th at a Marriott and I was told they're doing interview classes of 40 now. For that reason, I made sure to schedule the latest flight back home because I'm not sure if the individual interview will be shorter, or we will be there longer.
