If you get quarantined you are only pay protected, per the OIM. i.e. if you get it close to the end of the trip or are quarantined at the end of a trip you will be sitting on your own time somewhere. The union says it it still up in the air who will be paying for a hotel if required.

Talked to one of our pilots today on 48 hr layover in LAX and hotel restaurant is closed, no room service and now a Governor order to stay at home. This is getting crazy what is a guy supposed to if you cannot go out to eat? The essential worker letter references to and from work not out to eat.

Then I guess I'm done in LA! No food, not safe for me to fly w/o food for 48 hours.

If the city of Los Angles feels it necessary to close public movement to such a point that no one can eat, than all operations; ie; transportation, pax and cargo, should cease. I'm not arguing one way or another about whether it should be, but Fedex and other related industries can't function, nor should they, if such draconian measures are deemed appropriate.
This may be the new reality and may be necessary, but you can't have some industries vital and then expect the front line staff to somehow fit in to a lockdown environment.

You need to buy a cooler. Or call the Duty Officer and have extra meals boarded to take along and get a fridge at the hotel. I cannot believe some of the whining around here as we watch every pax pilot in the world get their a$$e$ handed to them. Figure it out, make it work, and count your blessings. Or put your schedule in open time - plenty of folks would be fine with that as well.

You can’t carry a cooler around internationally. Limit to two bags for carry on and many countries customs and immigrations don’t allow food inbound. I hate what’s happening to our friends at the pax carriers and we certainly aren’t out of the woods. To keep the operation running through requires pilots to sleep and eat. Not ideal but some things we have to rely on the company to work out on our behalf.
